AUDITIONS
Frederick Children's Chorus
The Frederick Children's Chorus welcomes children ages 8-12, and young women and young men with changing voices, to audition for its nationally-recognized choral music education and performance program. Auditions for membership in FCC's treble choirs take place each year from late spring until late August; auditions for membership in The Frederick Chamber Singers (FCS), an ensemble for teens with outstanding musical aptitude and skills, take place in August. Auditions take place at FCC's rehearsal location in the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, Frederick, MD.
Younger children may enroll in Little Music Makers (LMM), a non-auditioned program designed specifically for five through eight-year-old children. Enrollment is now open for Fall LMM classes.
FCC offers children the opportunity to grow musically by supporting their healthy vocal development with a comprehensive, balanced, sequential program. Children enjoy the shared experience of creating choral music with their ensembles, acquire musicianship skills, develop individual voices through one-on-one vocal coaching, and build camaraderie and the "spirit of the ensemble" with fellow choristers at retreats and in rehearsal.
FCC also affords its choristers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to participate in its national and international touring program, and experience the stage through collaborative performances with some of the area's most prestigious companies such as the The Frederick Chorale, Glorystar Children's Chorus, The Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra, and performances in exciting venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City. Through FCC's transformative program, children discover their musical ability and creativity in a supportive environment that nurtures the whole child.
Contact [email protected] to arrange for your child's next step in musical enrichment and fun!

A Photographer & A Painter
August 1-31
Opening Reception - August 2, 5-9pm
In August, TAG of Frederick (formerly The Artists' Gallery) will feature an exhibition by Colleen Clapp and Mark Rothkopf entitled, "A Photographer & A Painter." This show, along with an exhibit of work by the other members of the gallery, will run the entire month of August.
| "Stumbling on Serenity" by Colleen Clapp |
Colleen Clapp, award winning artist and illustrator, was raised in an environment surrounded by art and artists. Dedicated to the visual arts at an early age, she studied fine art in college and went on to learn graphic design and illustration.
She has enjoyed a very diverse art career that has spanned a period of over 30 years. Commissions include public murals, magazine and book illustration, portraits, and paintings in a variety of media. In recent years she has surrendered to the call of the fine arts again and exhibits her oil paintings in the Baltimore / D.C metropolitan area. Clapp maintains a studio in Frederick, Md.
"These paintings, which some may see as abstracted landscapes, are a collection of color, rhythm and texture," said Clapp. "To me, they represent a journey - perhaps a 'pilgrimage in progress' to an unknown place, a mysterious beginning, or an inevitable ending. I hope you find these works create a sense of quiet, reflection and introspection. Enjoy the journey."
| "Ocean Front" by Mark Rothkopf |
Mark Rothkopf grew up near Woodstock, N.Y. in a beautiful area full of colorful characters. He earned at B. A. from the University of Maryland, studying studio art and art history. While at school, a friend introduced him to black-and-white photography and helped him set up a darkroom. A photography workshop he took in Vermont "changed me forever," he said. "The work stirred a passion in me that has never left me."
Rothkopf began to travel in his thirties. His search for the unusual led him to Iceland and Canada's Gasp Peninsula. "There I found a beauty and peacefulness I had never experienced before," he said. "This show is about those trips and how they have affected my quest for that same sense here at home."

The Fun Company, Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) family theatre, is now enrolling students for its burgeoning summer camp for kids and teens, Fun Camp. Fun Camp's wildly popular and successful summer camps are an intense, yet fun filled experience for young performers.
Depending on the session, campers spend the first week exploring exercises in acting, improvisation, voice, movement, theatrical design, song and dance. That is followed by a jam packed week of rehearsing for their final performance which is open to the public. Final performances are structured to reflect the individual participants of each session and are created based on their creativity, imaginations and unique characters.
The final Fun Camp session will run from August 4 through August 15. Camp is held Monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm with a final performance taking place on the last Friday of the session at 3pm. Cost is $380.
