  2014-15 Arts in Education Grants

A major component of the Frederick Arts Council is our Arts in Education (AiE) program, through which we give matching grants to schools and other educational entities to bring arts into the classroom and to our constituents.

The Frederick Arts Council's AiE funds help teachers and program specialists enhance their arts curricula and offerings by drawing upon the talents of artists and arts organizations in our community. Please check our Artist Directory for names and contact information or contact the Frederick Arts Council for recommendations and consultation.

Arts in Education grants are available to schools and other educational institutions in Frederick County to bring artists into their programs. Schools may submit up to two grants each academic year. The maximum amount of each grant is typically $300 and must be matched 1:1. Grants are accepted on a revolving basis until the annual budget is exhausted. It is strongly encouraged that grant applications be submitted at least 30 days prior to the planned arts activity.

For more information, call the FAC office at 301-662-4190, or by email at [email protected]

The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) Grants for Organizations (GFO) granting program provides unrestricted general operating support to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, as well as units of government, that produce or present ongoing arts programming open to the public.  GFO awardees educate children, anchor communities, stimulate business activity and support jobs. For more information on the program visit the MSAC GFO page.

This September, MSAC staff will present four informational sessions about the GFO program. The sessions will provide a description of the GFO program and assist prospective grantees with their applications for funding. Each session will include break-out session that addresses questions about the grant process. The MSAC encourages all GFO applicants to register, and email questions to Carla Dunlap prior to your session so that the presentations are best tailored to grantee needs.

Fredericktowne Players and a Murder Mystery

For all of you who love murder mysteries and laughter, the Fredericktowne Players are able to combine the two. If you are having a birthday party, office party or any other social event, hiring the Fredericktowne Players will mean that your event will be a memorable one for your guests. Naturally, as we are entertainers, these murder mysteries are only for the purpose of enjoyment as we don't want to hurt anyone. However, there is a chance that any one of your guests might die of laughter or other complications.

Clybourne Park

by Bruce Norris

directed by Peter Wray

September 12 - October 5

Thursdays through Sundays

Preview Thursday, September 11

Bruce Norris' witty new spin off of Lorraine Hansberry's Raisin in the Sun follows a Chicago household in 1959 as a black family plans to move into a predominately white neighborhood. The neighbors gather and try to convince the family to choose a different suburb. As the discussion heats up, the play switches to the same house in 2009 as the neighborhood has changed and gentrification has set in. This Pulitzer and Tony award winning satire takes jabs at everything from race to real estate. For mature audiences.

The Last Hurrah

Every Sunday at 7:00pm

Admission is FREE!

Join host Kevin Cole at a free weekly comedy show as he welcomes a panel of comedy writers, actors and special guests to discuss the events of the past week, life, and whatever else comes to mind.  While the panel will change from week to week, regular panelists include Lisa Burl (MET Company member, Balls Deep In Love), Karli Cole (MET Regular, Seemless, Annual Live 2), and Andrew Michaels(Annual Writer, Annual Live 2). Atmosphere

An exhibition of the oil paintings of Frederick artist Walt Bartman

September 5-28

Artist Reception First Saturday, September 6, 4-8pm

This exhibition of the works of Walt Bartman will feature a collection of his paintings with a focus on the meaning of "Atmosphere." Bartman has had a long interest in expressing infinite moods that nature bestows upon us daily. From the blinding, burning intensity of sunlight to the turbulent storms and the mystery of fog, we have all felt Nature's control over us.  The works in this exhibition are about how the changes of our day relate to the microcosm of our lives.  One of his favorite quotes is, " The afternoon is when the storms come."
