The Unit - Festival of Staged Readings
Infinithéâtre, Montréal, QC
September 11 - 17, 2016
The Unit - Festival of Staged Readings will take place September 11th - 17th in four different theatres in and around Montréal.  All readings are free to the public (donations collected) and reservations can be made by phone (514) 987-1774 ext. 104 or by emailing

Artistic Directors are encouraged to attend, and may reserve seats by contacting Simon A. Abou-Fadel, General Manager at Manager@Infinitheatre.com.

The Unit is comprised of seven wildly talented Québec playwrights (six were each sponsored by a different English-language Québec theatre and one was sponsored by a theatre in St. John's Newfoundland), who were invited to submit an early draft of a play they were currently writing. Consequently, these magnificent seven where handpicked by an independent selection committee from an overwhelming amount of submissions and have been in play development mode with Infinithéâtre for quite some time. These seven original works are ready for a public reading and reflect The English-Language Communities and Diversity of Québec.  The staged readings are designed to garner interest from Artistic Directors across Québec and Canada in their future programming of plays.

Leadership Nouveau is a linked website-conference program which examines the challenges of arts management in the 21st century.

The 2016 edition of Leadership Nouveau at the Paley Center for Media in New York will explore the question of experiential consumption in the arts. Indeed, if the technology used to present exhibitions and performances has radically changed the actual experience of the cultural consumer, it has also transformed the way people interact with the arts, through virtual reality, streaming, 3D or big data, which could be used to reach out and retain audiences, prepare, deepen or prolong their experience.

Call for Submissions: Reframing the Stage
AD HOC Assembly and LMDA Canada
Deadline: August 31, 2016
ADHOC Assembly and LMDA Canada launch a forward-looking inquiry into best practises for identity-conscious casting. A diametric alternative to colour blind casting, identity conscious productions incorporate the identities of cast and creative team members as an acknowledged and incorporated narrative element. This approach considers the implications of age, race, gender, physical ability, etc. within the story being told. (A play is herein defined as a performative source document)

This is a call for proposals for identity-conscious / non-traditionally cast productions of Canadian work. We invite the community at large to join us in imagining future stagings of Canadian work that incorporate identity alongside the other contextual considerations which factor into our varied interpretive practises. Artists are invited to submit proposals that situate a Canadian work within a specific context (e.g. historical, regional, linguistic, gender or cultural relocation). Proposals should offer reasoning for the approach to the proposed production, and articulate the interpretive impact of this choice on the story being presented to audiences. While this project is dramaturgically driven, submissions are welcome from all arts practitioners regardless of training, discipline, culture, ethnicity, ability, experience, affiliation or role. Collaboratively devised proposals are welcome.
