Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 370 of the 991 construction fatalities recorded in 2016 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.
The ASA Safety Committee, led by Safety Chair, Ted Dunnam of ESC Safety Consultants , partnered with SpawGlass Contractors , Byrne Construction Services , & StructureTone to conduct a safety stand-down at their local projects on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

A demonstration was performed at each project by Mike Grendell of Midco Sling & Ryan Anguiano of 3M to emphasize the arresting forces on a body during a fall. Additionally, Alex Porter, OSHA Area Director and Victor Ramon, Compliance Assistant Specialist for OSHA , addressed the employees with statistics about the effects of fatalities & injuries on workers, companies, and victim’s families. Through the efforts of all involved we were able to reach over 200 workers and raise the level of safety awareness in their environment.

Special thanks to the general contractors and subcontractors involved for your dedication to safety.
