Physicians: Do you have expertise in cybersecurity? Join HHS virtual focus group - Aug. 9
Physicians are invited to participate in a virtual focus group that is part of a project to improve cybersecurity in health care. The United States Department of Health and Human Services is seeking advice from the health care industry around the country on how to promote cybersecurity in our sector.

As part of that effort, a virtual focus group will be conducted among health practitioners in Colorado on Aug. 9, 6 - 8 p.m. MT online via a WebEx conference. The aim of this two-hour discussion will be to learn more about awareness, practices, and attitudes towards cybersecurity.

Participants in this important effort will help inform and shape the plans and outreach efforts of HHS as it works to address health care cybersecurity issues.

Due to federal regulations on this type of project, financial incentives cannot be provided. These focus group sessions are being organized by a research firm working with the government. This is a great opportunity to weigh in on an important issues facing our industry today. It's important -- and it should be interesting, too.

Focus group participants will be capped at 15 people. RSVP by emailing CISA405d@hhs.gov.
CIVHC: Consumers can now shop for health care imaging services in Colorado

A new online tool from the Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) shows prices for common imaging services at health care facilities across the state.

With the prevalence of high deductible plans and health care premiums on the rise, more patients are looking to "shop" for health care services that will provide the best outcome at the lowest cost. Coloradans needing imaging services like CT scans, MRIs and ultrasounds can now search facilities by cost, distance and patient experience to give them more information to make their decision.

The data, made available by CIVHC using commercial health insurance payments from the Colorado All Payer Claims Database (CO APCD), shows that prices and patient experience ratings vary significantly across Colorado, and paying more does not always mean better patient experience. In one example, patients shopping for care could save up to $7,990 on a stomach CT scan. Patient experience ratings, which range from 2-5 out of 5 stars across facilities, are also available.
