President's Message

Happy Holidays to all! Let's hope 2018 is full of prosperity for our community and nation, with hopes of infrastructure replacement funding programs.

Our annual November Joint Meeting with the Cleveland Section was held in Brecksville at the Creekside Restaurant with 53 in attendance. It was an enjoyable and interesting meeting with our Cleveland friends. Our speaker, Alan Plastow, made an entertaining presentation on the body of knowledge required to become a professional project manager, particularly a PMP or CAPM. We also had the chance to recognize and congratulate the University of Akron Student Chapter for their two awards, along with our ASCE Region 3 Governor present, Mr. Craig Hebebrand. The University of Akron Student Chapter was one of five finalists for the Robert Ridgway Award for exceptional student chapters, and secondly they won the Outstanding Student Chapter in Region 3. These students are an energetic and ambitious group. Let's continue to support them.

If you received your notice to renew your professional license dues, you read that starting in 2018, a PE must have 2 PDH hours of ethics training every two years. In the future, the Akron-Canton Section will help you fulfill this requirement by offering ethics meeting topics.

Please try to attend our Annual Holiday Meeting at BLU Plate Restaurant in downtown Akron on Thursday, December 14th. Have a joyous season and a Happy New Year!

The University of Akron Student Chapter has bi-weekly meetings with professional speakers, offering students insight into job opportunities available after graduation. For the Fall 2017 semester, they have participated in events such as Adopt-A-Highway, volunteered at ZIPFEST, organized and hosted a very successful joint student and parent chapter dinner, held a resume workshop, and helped with the civil engineering department's Thanksgiving lunch. For the end of the semester they are volunteering for Adopt-A-Classroom with Akron Hope. Their current membership is at 150 with many students taking active leadership roles.

The active University of Akron Student Chapter hosted our October meeting. They are well represented at our parent chapter meetings.
