Welcome to the 2nd edition of the Newsletter for the New England Chapter of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama. 
 
The chapter will continue sending out a newsletter seasonally. The next one will be sent out March 1.  Each one will include a Service Spotlight highlighting the work of a New England practitioner using psychodrama, information about upcoming events and trainings taking place, as well as general announcements relevant to the field.

The Most Influential Psychiatrist of the 20th Century Might Be Someone You've Never Heard Of

One hundred years ago, a 23-year-old University of Vienna medical student attended a lecture by Professor Sigmund Freud. It was a dream analysis. As the students filed out of the lecture hall, the famous psychoanalyst asked the young student, later known as J.L. Moreno, what kind of work he was doing. "Well, Dr. Freud," he replied, "I start where you leave off. You meet people in the artificial setting of your office. I meet them on the street and in their home, in their natural surroundings. Open Psychodrama Session--Magic Shop

SPONSORED BY THE AMERICAN SOCIETY of GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY AND PSYCHODRAMA, NEW ENGLAND CHAPTER
 
 
This is the final open session for 2016. The theme for this session is Magic Shop.

The Magic Shop is an action structure in which the main character is the Shop Keeper and the group members can participate as Shoppers as well as play characters of "items" in the shop for sale.  Shoppers can buy different items in the shop that represent qualities, characteristics and/or values or beliefs that are purchased by what might no longer be serving or what they have plenty or more than of and can spare sharing.
 
LOCATION:  The Arlington Center at 369 Mass Ave, Arlington, MA, 02474 
DATE: December 16, 2016
TIME: 7:30 to 9:45 p.m. (please arrive 5-10 minutes early to register)
COST: $10.00 at the door by cash or check made out to the Arlington center

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

Steven Durost is the Founder and Director of C.R.E.A.T.E! The Center for Expressive Arts, Therapy and Education, P.L.L.C., a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist.  He holds a PhD in Expressive Arts Therapy and is EMDR trained.  His forte is trauma and abuse recovery. Steven is the recipient of the 2014 Zerka T. Moreno Award awarded by the American Society of Psychotherapy and Psychodrama for his contribution to the advancement in the field of psychodrama.
