CAMA Inc. - A New Category of Patient Room Furniture Improves the Patient Experience  Wins Multiple Prestigious awards

Connecticut, November 21st, 2016 - Inspired by the universal desire of mothers to cuddle their hospitalized children, CAMA Collection and IOA Healthcare Furniture collaborated to form a furniture line that improves the patient experience by harnessing the healing power of touch.

The IOA Healing Touch Collection   is a growing patient room healthcare furniture collection that addresses the need for personal touch and engagement between patients, their loved ones and caregivers through beautifully designed furniture pieces. In 2015, the collection launched with the introduction of the CAMA Bed Chair. The only one of its kind in the  i ndustry, the chair quickly won Interior Design Magazine's Best of Year (BoY) Award for the Healthcare Furniture category and continues to win numerous accolades - most recently, "Best of Competition" at the 2016 Nightingale Awards. The newly debuted CAMA Chaise Sleeper is the second piece in the collectionandwas recently selected as a 2016 Interior Design Magazine BoY finalist for the Healthcare Furniture category. Winners will be announced on December 1st.

About the Importance of Touch in Healthcare Settings:  Hand-holding, cuddling, and other commonplace  affections are fundamental to effective communication, the development of loving relationships and overall well-being. Numerous studies confirm that touch is  connected to improved clinical outcomes in healthcare settings, as touch provides many therapeutic benefits including, reduced stress, improved sleep, memory and pain management. Despite this body of knowledge, Western medicine has been slow to harness the healing power of touch. The IOA Healing Touch Collection brings the human dimension of healing into healthcare environments.

About CAMA Collection, LLC.: The CAMA Collection, LLC. aims to fully develop interior environments that support health and wellbeing by solving issues in the healthcare environment through product design, art and more. Each collection is crafted in collaboration with hand-picked artisans, manufacturers and publishers that share our values and goals.

About IOA Healthcare Furniture : IOA-hcf, a family-owned company, was founded in Udine, Northern Italy in 1933. Today, IOA is located in Thomasville, NC, designing and crafting healthcare furniture that has received numerous accolades including Neocon's Innovation Award, the Nightingale Award and Healthcare Design's People's Choice Award. www.ioa-hcf.com

ASID CT 2016 Fall Student Mixer

On November 12 some of our student members enjoyed a visit to  EleMar New England Stone Warehouse in New Haven for the student fall mixer. They toured the stone warehouse and enjoyed brick oven pizza. It was a great way for the students to connect with each other and learn about the ins and outs of a stone warehouse.

NEWS FROM OUR MEMBERS
Isabel Elsinga, Allied ASID
I became an interior designer after I finished my studies in Florence, Italy.
Being Dutch myself, it is clear that I love European contemporary design and you will always see elements of this in my plans. Our small country has produced several known and fun designers like Marcel Wanders and Hella Jongerius.  I have done projects in Holland and some in Connecticut, where I now live.
Joining ASID was the first thing I did when I moved to the States and it has been a great way for me to navigate the design scene and to get to know other designers in our own local ASID community in Connecticut. ASID keeps me in the loop of new trends and I really appreciate the CEU courses they organize as well as the non-CEU events all over the region.
One event I believe you cannot miss is the ICFF fair in the Javits Center in New York City. It is fabulous to see how international design firms come together in this showcase of  modern design. You see the latest trends in furniture, fabrics, lighting, you name it. Here too ASID is well represented and I always try to join for a couple of  CEU courses and lectures offered at the fair. Another fun thing to see are the booths where students of various design academies show their design ideas.
It is at an event like this where I feel my design concepts get enhanced. I like to work with clean lines and color. Light is important too, the way light changes in a room throughout the day is vital for lighting ideas. Furthermore, I do not think you have to stick to one style, for example I like to use various design styles mixed together; why not mix modern elements in a classic design? Beautiful furniture is great in itself, but as designers we have to put it all together and do the magic !
Happy Holidays and Cheers to ASID and its members!

NEWS FROM OUR STUDENTS
Madelynn Hopkins, ASID Student Member,
ASID University of Bridgeport Chapter President

How did a small town Oregon girl end up in Connecticut? Well dreams of the opportunities that the East Coast presents for interior designers pulled me to the University of Bridgeport where I am currently a junior. Choosing interior design was an easy choice for me. Every bone in my body wants to be creative, create beautiful things, and always have fun. I love how spaces can speak to a person, how they can make a person feel, and how a well-designed space can help a person every day. I knew I wanted to do that. I want to impact people every day through my designs. ASID made my passion grow for interior design exponentially and help me become more confident in my networking skills. This year I am the President of the ASID UB chapter. I love being connected with other passionate interior design students who all have the common goal of pushing ourselves to be better designers. In five years I see myself working at a design firm and being considered an irreplaceable employee who is a trailblazer for new innovative and creative designs. What sets myself apart from other designers is my drive to always think outside the box. Always wanting to push the envelope more and more. How can I take my designs to the next level?
