KASIKasi Stunson to be the new Director of Operations for ASIPP®

We are sad to inform you that Melinda Martin will be leaving ASIPP with her last day being this Friday, September 23. Melinda has been with ASIPP for over 10 years and has been a loyal and valuable assist to ASIPP. We know that she will be missed by the board, staff, and the membership. As Melinda's replacement, we have recruited Kasi Stunson.

Kasi Stunson has a background in the field of Communications and Broadcast Journalism. Most recently, she served as the Assistant News Director for the NBC affiliate in Charlotte, NC. Prior to that, she was the Senior Executive Producer at KPRC in Houston, TX. She's also worked in newsrooms in Detroit and Cleveland. She has a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign and a Master's degree in Mass Communications and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University. When she's not at work, Kasi likes to read crime novels, spend time at the gym, or in the garden.

Please wish Kasi good luck in her new role with ASIPP.

The American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians recently sent about 50 members to Washington, D.C., where they attended a legislative session to advocate for changes in MIPS.

HLF High- vs Low-Frequency Spinal Cord Stimulation for the Long-Term Treatment of Back and Leg Pain Share this Content
HF10 therapy was more effective than traditional SCS at reducing intractable back and leg pain.
Paresthesia-free spinal cord stimulation (SCS) with 10-kHz high-frequency (HF10) therapy was superior to traditional SCS for long-term treatment of intractable back and leg pain, according to a study published earlier this month in Neurosurgery.

Achieving pain relief with traditional SCS relies on producing stimulation-induced paresthesias that overlap with chronically painful areas.

Nod "New" Recharge-Free Spinal Cord Stimulator for
Chronic Pain Gets FDA Nod
A "new" recharge-free and upgradeable spinal cord stimulation (SCS) system for the treatment of chronic pain gained FDA approval this week.
The device, made by St. Jude Medical, is being billed as the "first and only" such system available to pain sufferers in the US.

StanfordStanford Researchers Seek People Living with Chronic Pain for Survey
Chronic pain can have a very big impact one's life, including one's thoughts and feelings.  In order to help people suffer less, we are studying the emotional impact of pain. In our first study, we are collecting "daily snapshots" about thoughts and feelings experienced by people with chronic pain.

FB Facebook Can Decrease Inflammatory Back Pain Diagnosis,
Treatment Times

Advertising on Facebook may be a more effective way to reach patients with inflammatory back pain (IBP) and at an earlier stage of their condition than newspaper advertising and other approaches, new research suggests.

Back pain is a common medical complaint that affects millions of people around the world. The majority of cases are the result of mechanical causes, but some patients have an inflammatory component that is not always easy for the generalist to recognize.

GI Aspirin's GI Risks May Be Overstated

The perception that aspirin raises the risk for deadly gastrointestinal bleeding appears to be a bad rap, a new study suggests.

The study found that although low-dose aspirin prescribed to prevent cardiovascular illness is linked to GI bleeds, these events typically are mild and easily treated. While aspirin is linked to cerebral bleeding, which can be debilitating and in some cases fatal, those risks are more than offset by the number of ischemic strokes and cancers the drug prevents, according to the researchers.
