Dr. Fusun Cuhadaroglu Cetin, a professor of psychiatry at the Hacettepe University in Ankara, is the winner of the first ever "Ulku Ulgur MD International Scholar Award." The award recognizes a physician in the international community who has made significant contributions to the enhancement of mental health services for children and adolescents. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry presented Dr. Cuhadaroglu with the distinction at its 61st Annual meeting in San Diego, California, last month. She said, "I am honored to be the recipient of this award by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, named after Dr. Ulku Ulgur who has been a very motivating role model to me and many others through his important international work."
Dr. Ulgur is an AACAP Distinguished Life Fellow who is known for his significant contributions to the development of school-based mental health services. He said Dr. Cuhadaroglu has played a prominent role in advancing the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry profession and services in Turkey. "Dr. Cuhadaroglu is a visionary leader and dedicated professional. I congratulate her on this well-deserved award," he said. Dr. Cuhadaroglu has spent the past two decades championing the advancement of child mental health services around the world. She is a member of a team of physicians that established Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as an independent branch of medicine in Turkey, and she worked with the World Health Organization to develop a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry program in Albania. Dr. Cuhadaroglu is the Secretary General of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions, Vice President of the International Society for Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology, and an advisory board member of European Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She has published numerous scientific articles throughout her almost 30-year career in medicine, and was the editor of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Textbook published in Turkish.
