Parent Connection

Love is in the Air!

Greetings fellow parents!  February is always an interesting month to me.  We celebrate groundhogs, presidents, football, and love ... and all this comes at a very gray time of year, when everyone's counting the days until Spring Break.

Some students may be heading out on an Anderson University
Tri-S trip this spring, where their perspectives will be challenged, and hopefully their desire to impact the world will grow.  Here on our campus perspectives will be challenged as well.  Impact Your World Week starts today, which is always an uplifting and thought-provoking week for our campus community.  You can read more about this and our guest speaker in the following article.

I encourage you to also read about the AU Tri-S program in the Parent Resources section.  The opportunities this program offers are life-changing ... and an extremely inexpensive way to travel and broaden horizons.  Please talk with your child about checking out this wonderful program.

If your student is hosting a younger sibling or cousin for Lil' Sibs Weekend, I hope everyone has a great experience!  There's a lot to do over the weekend, and it should be a great time to be on our campus.

Last but not least, Valentine's Day is next week, so don't forget your special someone at AU.  No matter how old one is, it's always fun to get a Valentine from a Mom or Dad ... although we don't need a special occasion to let our children know how much we love them!

Blessings to all parents who love their children.

for

Impact Your World Week

Each year, there are two special weeks at Anderson University when  guest speakers are invited to spend the week on campus, "encouraging us toward both the inward and outward movements of our life with Christ." These speakers present at both Tuesday and Thursday chapels in addition to two extra evening chapels. Many students say these are their favorite chapels. Spiritual Emphasis Week happens during first semester and this special week during second semester is calledImpact Your World Week.

This year Impact Your World Week is February 7-9. During this time students have the chance to learn from an off-campus speaker who focuses on Christ's call to serve the world, while using one's faith to "impact your world." The Campus Ministries office sponsors the week, which gives students a time to reflect on their own circumstances and lives, while trying to see the bigger global picture.

Impact Your World Week speakers in the past have included Dan Kimball, Reggie Dabbs, Dr. Lori Salierno, Dr. Andy Odle, and many others. Our special speaker this year is bestselling author, prominent Christian activist, and sought-after speaker,  Shane Claiborne. Shane has written a number of books and articles, and travels around the globe speaking about peacemaking, social justice, and Christ. He is the author of a number of books including The Irresistible Revolution, Jesus for President, and Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers. Shane graduated from Eastern University, worked with Mother Teresa for ten weeks in Calcutta, and spent three weeks in Baghdad with the Iraq Peace Team.

Tri-S: Experience of a Lifetime

When your child first came to Anderson University, you were most likely informed of a program we call Tri-S. In this "Parent Resources" section, we wanted to highlight this superb program and encourage you to talk to your child about the wonderful opportunities available through Tri-S.

According to the program's mission statement, "Tri-S is a unique international and cross-cultural program that, by integrating service and learning, fosters spiritual, academic, and personal growth." Tri-S stands for Study, Serve, and Share. Over 400 AU students travel throughout the United States and around the globe each year through this program. Tri-S trips start at just $120, while overseas trips can average around $1000. The experiences, though, are priceless. The program offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences for AU students, bringing about cultural awareness and making a difference in our world.

There are three types of trips offered to students. Our students can choose between service projects, work camps, and cultural trips ... each one offering unique experiences and opportunities.

Mocha Joe's is a favorite hangout here on the AU campus. Students love the drinks and deserts, concerts, the games, and spending time with friends.
