A Funny Word for the End
Hi Parents,
Wow, the end of the year is almost here. So many great things happen on this campus every day, and I have the privilege of getting to know a number of our students, many of whom I'm able to watch mature and grow during their time here. The transformation is really quite wonderful to see.
I hope your student is planning to attend the fun activities happening on campus during Send Off Weekend! Friday evening, May 3, is the Send Off Party in the Valley, with live bands, free food, and lots of fun and games. Saturday evening, May 4, is the "Rooftop Dance" high above Nicholson Library. The weekend ends with a free "Breakfast Under the Stars" on Sunday night, May 5, from 11:00-Midnight. Encourage your child to have some fun with their friends during their last weekend on campus this year!
For those of you who are parents of a senior . . . congratulations. It seems for most seniors, this time is bittersweet. They're so excited to finally be finished, but sad at the thought of leaving the AU home and friends they've known so well these past four or five years. For those of us watching them leave, it's bittersweet, too. We're so proud and excited to see them go out into the world, but sad they won't be part of our community anymore.
I've mentioned before that I'm a movie person . . . I love movies. One of my favorites is The Way We Were. When Katie and Hubbel meet up shortly before their college graduation, he makes a comment about "commencement." Katie then says, "That's a funny word for the end."
I'm sure for most of our students, although it is the end of this phase of their lives, commencement will be all about the beginning of the next phase. May God be with them.
Blessings to all parents who love their children. Elyse Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Programming |

Finding a job in this economy is difficult for anyone, but some evidence suggests teens are among the hardest hit. If a summer job for yourself or your college student is on your to-do list, consider these ideas to help make it happen.
