4 FOR : The interview series that goes one-on-one with
Solo Sundays performers to figure out how they do what they do.

Process pieces are trending these days. We hunger to hear about how things are generated. In fact, I keep a book on my desk called Daily Rituals: How Artists Work by Mason Currey. It's a good little read about famous folks and their habits around creating. Spoiler alert: Everybody does it in his or her own way.

With that in mind, let's add to the discussion. What's it like to create a solo show? Characters are channeled, plots are enacted, and themes are relayed, all through one person. Despite being a singular endeavor, there's so much more that goes into producing solo performance, the hope being that our efforts translate into a hilarious, affecting, shocking, [insert adjective here] show for an engaged audience.

At Bruce Pachtman's suggestion, I am embarking on a new project  -  to interview Solo Sundays performers about their process. My hope is to assemble a collection of Q&As with solo performers about their work. Because I'm asking 4 questions per person, we've decided to call it "4 for." Which is pretty straightforward and a homophonic play on words.
