Marching For Fun(ds)

Dear Families,

Musketeer March The Musketeer March is fast approaching. Did you know that it supports the Annual Fund, our largest source of unrestricted dollars? What does that mean? It means we can use these funds to help support important student services such as our wonderful, helpful nurses and the door-to-door transportation. We also use it for visas for our international teachers and extra funding for sports, technology, art, and music. The Marche des Mousquetaires is a fun event that helps end the school year on a high note and keeps our kids active. Please help support our students and sponsor a child! Click here to make a safe, secure payment on PayPal by Monday, May 8. A $40 sponsorship ensures that your child has a special t-shirt to wear at the event and helps us reach our $25,000 goal.

Thank you families for all of your support!

Leslie Houfaidi
4-5 Principal

7th Grade Court Experienceseventhgradecourtexperience

Since March, Mme Setter's 7th grade classes have been reading To Kill a Mockingbird . In addition to reading the novel, we had Professor Tobin from UMKC School of Law and three of her students (Paige, Blake and Kyle) visit our classroom and answer questions about how our system works. They also answered many questions about the trial in the novel.

Then, on April 20, we went on a field trip to the US District Court, and three of the seventh grade classes toured the  federal courthouse. We spent most of the morning learning about the way our judicial system and court works. We got to meet with two United States marshals and Federal Judge Steve Bough. The federal marshals put one of the students in handcuffs, leg shackles and a chain. When we met with Judge Bough, we were set up in his courtroom as if we were working a federal trial. We had the jury, the lawyers and the judge (myself). He then took a picture of our class in his courtroom. We also got to learn about famous and not-so-famous federal trials in and out of Kansas City. After the courthouse, we walked down to the river market and got lunch. It was a great, interesting experience learning about the court system and the way it all works.

Literary Tea Partyliteraryteaparty

The 7th grade English classes had a literary tea party in which everyone came dressed as a character from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Students studied a character and then became that person in style, demeanor, speech, and point of view, while discussing topics relevant to the 1930s. Students also brought sweet tea and Southern food to enjoy at the party, bless their hearts!

Attention Incoming 8th Grade Familiesshotscook

Dear parents/guardians,

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services revised the Code of State Regulations, Immunization Requirements for School Children, 19 CSR 20-28.010. These rules establish the minimum requirements for children enrolled in Missouri public, private, and parochial schools. These revisions include a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine and a  Meningococcal vaccine required for all incoming 8 th grade students. In many cases, children will have received these vaccinations around age 11 or 12. Please contact your child's physician to see if they have had these vaccinations and to obtain a new vaccination record for school use.

Your child's proof of immunization should be uploaded into the SchoolMint system at the time of re-enrollment. If you are unable to upload those documents, please be aware that i t is your responsibility to give a copy of the updated shot records to the school nurse.
These immunizations are required to be on file with in the nurse's office prior to students beginning their 8th grade year or attending summer school.

Oak Journée Culturellejourneeculturelle

Dear Oak parents,

Thanks to the great response we received last year from the pilot program of Journée  Culturelle, we are doing it again! The theme for this year's program is "Le sport et les traditions dans le monde", or " Sports and Cultural Traditions Around the World".

Unlike the Winter concert, which is mandatory for students and teachers, the Spring Journée  Culturelle is voluntary. Teachers are volunteering extra time to help students learn songs and dance from around the world. However, not all teachers are able to do this because of other classroom commitments.

In addition, even if your student's class is participating, not all students will be in the performance. We understand that spring is a very busy time for some students (and their parents) with sports and other activities, so performing opportunities were offered on a volunteer-basis.

However, even if they are not in the production, all students will participate as audience members during the daytime performance in May.

There will be a repeat performance that evening, for parents. Please plan to join us!

One other thing -- please do not come to the daytime performance because of space constraints.

Thank you for your strong support of our school.
