Academic Program
Evaluators Needed
ABET Inc. periodically evaluates Engineering education programs for compliance with the published criteria for accreditation. Experienced engineers, from industry, government and academia, volunteer their time to visit one program per year, typically for three days, and report on the level of compliance. ABET provides training and all expense reimbursement.
The huge growth of academic programs in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering Technology -- there are now nearly 100 accredited programs -- has created a need for additional Evaluators. Because IEEE is a cooperating society in accreditation of these programs, new program evaluators are urgently needed from within the ranks of EMBS members. Please consider volunteering. You will make a strong and positive impact on the quality of educational programs in our field.
The deadline for application to serve as a Program Evaluator during the 2012-2013 academic year is April 10.
