CURRICULUM SPOTLIGHT in PHILOSOPHY
"What Makes Me Me Project"
Leading up to this project, students investigated social metaphysics through engagement with concepts like socialization, social identity, intersectionality, erasure, and oppression.

This was not merely an academic exercise, but also an investigation of their own standpoint within the complex of socialization, social identity, and interaction. To further comprehend this, we aimed to illustrate our own identities through artistic expression.

“Self- portrait” is taken somewhat loosely here…

This project asks students to be self-reflective, open-minded, critical, and creative.  View more examples on our Facebook page .

More students projects are now listed on our website here .
ACADEMY STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE #ENOUGH WALKOUT
A group of Academy students planned, organized, and participated in a walk-out this morning to show support for the victims of the Parkland School Shooting. Students were escorted out of the building from 10 a.m. to 10:17 a.m. During this time, students honored the victims and participated in the national dialogue.

Our faculty and staff view student-initiated forums as an opportunity for thinking well and carefully. Before the walkout, students met with teachers and directors to discuss how to lead the activity in a safe, educational, and well-intended way to have the students think well. We hope that this forum becomes a clear opportunity outside of teacher-led class time for students to initiate and enact our school's very real and very meaningful mission and vision . Click here and here to hear the discussion that the student had.
