Horizon JOI Club
Congratulations to our JOI club, who hosted an amazing event for senior citizens at Summit Glen Retirement Home.  17 JOI club members teamed up with 20 senior citizens to eat pastries, drink tea, and decorate mugs together.  JOI Club co-president, Jahzara Davis, explained to the room that the theme of their service project was M.U.G.-Memories Unite Generations.  93-year-old Nadine told Ms. Ullrich that the MUG party was the highlight of her old age. Bela Goodridge's partner stood up at the end and thanked JOI club for hosting such a wonderful event, saying it made them all feel younger. And Monica, the Summit Glen Activity Director, said resident-after-resident told her they want our JOI students back next year, and they want to donate to our next fundraiser-they thought Horizon students were amazing! After Spring Break, we get to bring the mugs back to Summit Glen, with pictures of each student and their senior partner inside, and those men and women will forever have their decorated mug to remind them that memories unite generations. Be on the lookout for JOI Club's bulletin board, coming soon to a hallway near you. And if you want to check JOI club out, come to Ms. Ullrich's room, room 607, every Tuesday-we've got at least two more projects to plan this year!

Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
