RGGI and the Clean Power Plan
At the end of July Acadia Center released the report " The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative: A Model Program for the Power Sector," showing that RGGI has reduced emissions, lowered electricity prices, and improved the economy in participating states. The EPA's recently-released Clean Power Plan also recognized these successes and identified RGGI as a model program.

Value of Solar in the Northeast States
Earlier this year Acadia Center released studies analyzing the value of solar power in Connecticut and Massachusetts; in July, it was Rhode Island's turn. Acadia Center experts found that the value of solar to the Rhode Island grid ranges from 19 to 25 cents/kWh, with additional societal values of 7 cents/kWh. Acadia Center also released a Value of Solar report for Vermont. See the press release here.

Natural Gas Capacity in New England
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced at the beginning of July that her office would lead a study of New England's energy needs. The analysis will evaluate options for cost-effectively meeting demand for electricity and natural gas while at the same time achieving necessary reductions in carbon pollution, and the Attorney General's office has called for restraint in certifying new pipeline capacity contracts until the results of the analysis are available. Acadia Center will serve as advisors to the study.
