Teachers could have your child arrested and sent to an alternative school!
|
May 8, 2014
Senate Bill 652 would give teachers the authority to have a student arrested and eventually sent to an alternative school if they fear or are worried that a student may cause physical harm to a teacher or another student.
If you are concerned about giving teachers the authority to have a student arrested and sent to an alternative school and how this would impact you and your child's lives, contact your State Senator today!
SB652 is scheduled to be considered by the full Senate soon!

Concerns of Parents of Children with Disabilities
|
Some concerns expressed by parents of children with disabilities include:
- Children being arrested because of failure by a teacher or staff to properly implement the child's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
- Lack of due process rights prior to change of placements.
- Unnecessary psychological trauma to their child for behavior that is a manifestation of their disability.
- Cost of time, money and emotions having to deal with law enforcement and the judicial system for special education issues that could and should be dealt with at the school level.
- Unnecessary cost to school systems for litigation certainly to follow the use and/or misuse of these policies by some teachers, further draining funds from programs needed by students with disabilities.
