I participated in the Urban Assault Ride with a fellow Bike Austin member a few years ago, and I did not regret it. It was one of the most fun rides (races) that I've been in.
The ride is this Sunday, June 24th. Find out more information at the Urban Assault Ride website.
Online registration closes TODAY at 4pm. In-person registration closes tomorrow/Saturday afternoon. There is no day-of registration.
The Urban Assault Ride™ is the biggest Bicycle Obstacle Event series in the nation! Here's how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for 'checkpoints' on your favorite two-wheeled steeds. At each checkpoint, you'll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more.
Earlier this week we thought the transportation conference was dead and we were headed for another extension.
Over the last two days, Senate and House leadership decided to push for a bill by June 30, directing the Transportation Conference Committee to go into serious negotiations for a final bill. Top on their agenda: working out an agreement on bike/ped funding.
Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison sits on the Conference Committee, and has been a key supporter of biking and walking in the past. She needs to hear from you to continue pushing for the initiatives that make Texas safer for cyclists and pedestrians.
Thank you!!! More news is forthcoming, but in the meantime...
We will be posting for our first membership director in early July! That means that we'll be able to work on even more, e.g. more showers and secure bike parking in Austin buildings, a bike highway along North MoPac, and more funding for family friendly bikeways across Austin.
While we have not yet reached our goal of 500 members, we have topped 350, which is an increase of 125 over three weeks! For this reason, we ask you to make a small donation to help us attract a high quality membership director. Our goal is to raise an additional $2500 before we post the position. If you can chip in with $100, $250, or even just $5 or $20, please visit www.lobv.org/join and click on "Donate Now" to make a one-time donation.
Thank you for your support. Together, we can accomplish so much for Austin.
