Dear Avenel Residents:

Below please find some important Community information.

Action Alert! Airplane Noise

Below is a message from the Montgomery County Quiet Skies Coalition. The Association is sending this message for those Avenel residents who are concerned about airplane noise in our Community and wish to take action.

We need as many people as possible to take 5 minutes TODAY to call the following County Council members.

The timing is critical, as our funding request for an airspace design consultant will be voted on Wednesday or Thursday. Let them know you support the Montgomery County Quiet Skies Coalition and you want them to support the request for $150,000 to hire an airspace design consultant for the County.
  • At-Large Councilmember Nancy Floreen: 240-777-7959
  • At-Large Councilmember, and current candidate for County Executive Marc Elrich: 240-777-7966
  • Council Vice President Nancy Navarro: 240-777-7968
  • District 2 Councilmember Craig Rice: 240-777-7955
  • District 5 Councilmember Tom Hucker: 240-777-7960
Talking points:
  • Approximately 20,000 Montgomery County residents in 30 neighborhoods are suffering on a daily basis from an explosion of noise and aircraft emissions that started in late 2015.
  • The high and repeated levels of noise are known to cause health impacts.
  • Airplane paths are also known to negatively affect property values -- and therefore county tax revenues. Therefore this funding request will benefit the county's tax revenues over time. It is a wise investment.
  • After the FAA implemented these new procedures in 2015, Montgomery County was invited to participate in a regional effort to address community noise concerns.
  • The membership of the Community Working Group is primarily composed of citizen volunteers with little expertise in aviation. These members must have technical support if they are to engage in this design process productively with the FAA.
  • The contract would be managed by the County, not by community members.
  • $150K to engage an airspace expert now is the right thing to do for both the affected communities and the county as a whole.
It would also be great to call the following people to THANK THEM for pledging their support for our request:
  • District 1 Councilmember, and candidate for County Executive Roger Berliner:  240-777-7828
  • County Council President, and candidate for At Large County Council Hans Riemer:  240-777-7964
  • At-Large Councilmember, and candidate for County Executive George Leventhal:  240-777-7811
  • District 3 Councilmember, and candidate for re-election Sidney Katz:  240-777-7906
Thanks everyone!  We need at least 5 Councilmembers to vote in favor of this request.  Every vote will count.
