Join Us On May 24!
On May 24, NAMI Franklin County is calling on people with lived experience with mental illness and their family members who benefited Medicaid Expansion to stand with us as we work to keep Medicaid Expansion!

We'll gather at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at the NAMI Ohio offices, 1225 Dublin Road, Suite 125, Columbus, Ohio 43215.  NAMI will have vans available to shuttle people  to the Ohio Statehouse for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Health & Medicaid Hearing. We're organizing a group to participate in the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Health & Medicaid Hearing at the Ohio Statehouse to make sure people with lived experience and their families have their voices heard by state policy makers.

You can also meet us at the Ohio Statehouse; please plan to arrive at the statehouse by 9:30 a.m. The Senators are scheduled to hear public testimony starting at 10:00 a.m. We should be done around lunch time and return to the NAMI Ohio offices for pizza and refreshments!

Everyone participating receives a NAMI Franklin County t-shirt!

Greetings,
Warm weather starts the "walk" season for organizations large and small. Maybe you even participate in a few. They're for good causes. Look at the walks around the country for breast cancer. They're huge.

Every year the NAMI Franklin County NAMIWalks attracts more participants. But, I wonder...do some of you choose not to participate because of the stigma surrounding mental illness? We say it often, but it bears repeating: Mental illness is the result of a brain disorder. There is no shame or guilt involved. Please consider setting aside a couple of hours on June 10 to walk with families and friends who know that stigma is wrong, hurtful, and not productive in helping those we love-for the very people who struggle every single day to maintain their dignity and health.

Go to www.namifranklincounty.org and click on NAMIWalks to join a team, start a team, or walk individually. The money we raise enables NAMI Franklin County to provide support, education, outreach, and legislative advocacy for families and friends of the mentally ill. And it is free to all who want it.

Enjoy the fellowship, wellness fair, music, and fun for a great cause.
Walk with us!

All the best,
Rachelle A. Martin, Executive Director

Proud...
When was the last time you were proud of a particular accomplishment? An accomplishment by a family member? Your mentally ill loved one? While I was driving the other day, my mind was jumping from pillar to post and I thought about one of my daughters and how proud I was of her accomplishments. She earned her B.A. and M.A. on her own dime pretty much. She has a great work ethic and has raised a wonderful daughter. And, she is an accomplished artist and college instructor. Then my mind went immediately to her sister, who has been ill for the past 20 years. Most of that time, she has been very, very ill and hospitalized more than 25 times.  Read more.
