Short Vort:  Does God Have Favorites?
Arguably, no human being altered the course of history like Avraham. He was the consummate iconoclast.  He fought mighty kings and challenged the world with concepts of monotheism and justice.  Yet, when he is chosen by God, all these great historical accomplishments are dismissed in favour of something much more commonplace - that his son was a Mensch!  " For I know him and how he instructs his children and his household... to do  righteousness and justice"  (Bereishit 18:19).

Many great individuals have achieved much while neglecting their families and children.  Within their quest to achieve grand visions, they often sacrifice life's most fundamental values. God was teaching priorities and what defines true greatness.

Avraham's impact on the world is indisputable.  He was praised by kings and truly became the "Father of many nations" (Gen. 17:5).  Yet, he is ultimately judged by his relationship with his son.  That becomes his enduring legacy that will withstand the test of time.  Much has been said about the need to change the world.  In the end, it all begins at home.
