Dear Readers,
We were most honoured to host 200 delegates from across the province for BC's largest business policy forum, the
BC Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting and Conference.
During the policy sessions there were 454 voting tickets, the highest count ever! The policy our Chamber submitted with regards to our
doctor shortage was passed with great support. The recommendations:
- Consider the role of "physician extenders" as a solution to the primary care shortage in British Columbia;
- Provide British Columbia's family physicians with the ability and incentives to financially integrate physician extenders into their practices;
- Support necessary training of physician extenders to ensure that British Columbians received the best quality, most cost-efficient care.
"We have a shortage of
doctors; doctors at walk-in clinics are seeing their maximum quota of 50 patients every day," said Kelowna Chamber President, Tom Dyas. "With a physician extender, they could help 100 patients or more a day."
In addition to the advocacy activities, the conference speakers were local and the topics ranged from the economy to technology, to resources and agriculture. The Okanagan and our major sectors were well represented!
Speaking of the economy, don't miss our
Kelowna Outlook Luncheon featuring Chief Economist of Central Credit Union 1, Helmut Pastrick.
Finally, we would like to wish a very happy birthday to... us! The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce turned 110 years old yesterday. Stay tuned for your invite to a party this July!
