As you know, Puerto Rico has been tragically affected by Hurricane Maria, which hit the island on Sept. 20, 2017. Many families have lost their homes, and much of the island is still without power. Businesses have been slow to open and supplies are not reaching the people as quickly as needed. But the good news is Puerto Ricans are resilient and will not give up until their island is rebuilt.

The reality, however, is that a large number of people are looking to relocate permanently or temporarily on the U.S. mainland. Latin2Latin Marketing + Communications wanted to find a way to extend its arms and receive those coming to the mainland with the support and resources they will need. Hence, the Adopt a Puerto Rican Family project came to be.

Adopt a Puerto Rican Family provides a network for Puerto Rican evacuees to be matched with local families who can offer not only money, but a guiding hand in helping them adapt and navigate in their new reality.

The core of the initiative is the human connection - not just a check or supplies, which are valuable, but the mentorship and access to employment, housing, medical and social services that are needed immediately. The goal is to support and help our American brothers and sisters, and their children, adapt to this new environment and thrive in their adopted home.

Potential ways to help:
· Provide basic needs such as clothes, food and shelter
· Medical attention and access to medication
· Access to education, job training and opportunities
· Monetary help, financial guidance
· Mentorship, including life coaching and counseling
· Spiritual support and friendship

We understand leaving a home behind and starting over is not an easy task. It takes a great amount of courage to make that choice. Adopt a Puerto Rican Family wants to help.
