Medicare Beneficiaries have seen $635 Average Savings through ACA According to data from HHS, ACA has saved over 5.1 million seniors and individuals with disabilities at least $3.2 billion on prescription drugs. For example, through the donut hole coverage gap, seniors received a $250 rebate check in 2010 and saw 50% discounts on covered brand-name drugs in 2011. ACA includes provisions to close the donut hole in coverage over time. To see more information about how this will work, click here. __________________________ OWL's 2012 Mother's Day Campaign

OWL Celebrates the Two Year Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act
On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, since then shortened to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). After the law was enacted, millions of people gained or were saved from losing health insurance coverage. For example, the elimination of lifetime limits to insurance coverage benefited up to 105 million people and the provision which expanded coverage for dependents up to age 26 benefited up to 1.3 million minority young adults.
Last year, OWL released its annual Mother's Day Report entitled, "The Affordable Care Act: The American Version of Health Care for All," highlighting the benefits the new law provided to women age 40 and over -- now 74 million strong! To celebrate the two year anniversary of the signing of this law, OWL is excited to recommend to you some of the events happening around this monumental occasion.

National Women's Law Center provides materials for upcoming anniversary and Supreme Court hearings
This week is the two year anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act. Next week, the U.S. Supreme court will hear six hours worth of oral arguments from groups testifying on the constitutionality of the bill. March 26-28, the Supreme Court will hold sessions on:
- Anti-Injunction Act: 90 minutes
- Individual mandate: 120 minutes
- Severability: 90 minutes
- Medicaid: 60 minutes
The National Women's Law Center has provided tools and resources for you to use including draft emails, press statements, op/eds, talking points, Tweets, and Facebook photos.
Why is this important?
Today's edition of the New York Times included an article on the large gender gap between men and women on the cost of health insurance. Today, the gap still exists in most states -- in 2014, gender rating will be prohibited through provisions of ACA. According to recent research from NWLC, a Blue Cross Blue Shielf plan in Chicago charges $375 per month for a 30-year-old woman -- 31% more than what men the same age pay for the same coverage.
