During the first two weeks of June, the Africa Center for Strategic Studies held its Senior Leaders Seminar. Sixty-five senior-level military officers and civilian officials from thirty-seven countries, as well as senior representatives from international and regional organizations listened to presentations from leading security sector experts and analyzed and discussed the current African security environment.

On the 8th of June, the Africa Center honored General William E. "Kip" Ward by presenting him with the 2011 Visionary Award: Achievement in Peace in Security. The first Commander of U.S. Africa Command was celebrated for his dedication to African security issues and the major role he played in developing and conducting a broad array of programs which has strengthened the capabilities of African forces while promoting U.S. security interests.

Also in June, the ACSS East Africa Office facilitated a dialogue for The Brenthurst Foundation. The Forum was an opportunity for informal dialogue between representatives of the Somaliland government, African Union, Institute for Security Studies Addis, Brenthurst Foundation, Ethiopian government and U.S. Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa.
