HBBGreater Brazos Valley Home Builders are Building a Greater Brazos Valley with B/CS Habitat for Humanity
In 2006, the Greater Brazos Valley Builders Association partnered with Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity to build a Greater Brazos Valley. This partnership helped build the first 10 homes in Angels Gate subdivision in Bryan, Texas.

Ten years later, this subdivision, designed for low-income families to buy affordable homes, is almost complete. There are two homes left and they will be completed in one week for the families eagerly awaiting the keys to their new future. Construction is set to begin on Monday, October 24th.

LetterFromDirectorLetter from the Director
My message today is about Jim Davis, specifically, but in a more general sense, it's about the effect a person can have on others.  I met Jim when I was in 7th grade and my family began attending St. Paul's United Methodist Church.  As I grew older and began going on church mission trips to Louisiana, Mexico, and areas around Texas, I got to know Jim better. He taught the youth of the church various skills that we used in doing the repair work on those mission trips.

Jim's work with Habitat was also my introduction to this organization, and led to me getting involved when I was in high school. I attended a different church while in college, and participated in Habitat builds with that church.  It was a pleasure to see Jim on Saturdays on the construction site. After graduation I once again attended church with Jim. We worked together on various church committees, but also had the job of setting up and breaking down all the pieces of a mobile church, as we were meeting in a school at the time. It was really at this time that I became aware that Jim spent six days a week working on Habitat and spent most of his seventh day working on church business. Matthew 5:16 says "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Jim is a clear embodiment of this verse for me. I had been thinking about Habitat a lot in 2012 and 2013 after working on another build with my church. Following the sale of the previous company I worked for, I called Jim and asked him if Habitat had any openings.  Since then, Habitat has grown to be a huge part of my life, and I expect it will remain so.

Jim Davis is a very special individual, and his influence in my life has resulted in me seeking a career of serving others. After joining the staff, and getting to know the men and women of our weekday crew, I now realize there are many people associated with Habitat embodying the message of Matthew 5:16. I am encouraged to know that each of these people is influencing those around them.  My hope is that my generation shines our light and that we can pass that spirit on to others.

The 2016-2017 Aggie Habitat Officers with the Guardado Family
In 1991, a group of Texas A&M students came together to build a Habitat for Humanity home for the Kelley Family of College Station. This group of students began the campus chapter to Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity, Aggie Habitat.

For over 25 years this student led affiliate has dedicated their time to creating awareness about substandard housing and telling fellow students about how Habitat for Humanity is working to provide decent and affordable housing for qualifying families. Through their passion to make a difference in the lives of families in Bryan/College Station, they have raised over $514,000 and helped to build homes for 20 families.

In the 2014-2015 school year, Aggie Habitat was recognized by the Student Activities Association with the Distinguished Student Organization Award for their work to help eliminate substandard housing in Bryan/College Station with their annual fundraising efforts, including Pumpkin Patch and Shack-a-Thon

On October 29th, at the Texas A&M versus New Mexico State University Game, the members and officers of Aggie Habitat will be recognized by the 12th Man Foundation. Aggie Habitat Vice President Lauren Boehm says, "we hope to continue building a strong and successful organization, so we can ultimately make the community we live in strong and successful as well."
