The General Election is tomorrow, and we wanted to provide you with a final source of information as you make your way to the polls.  Click HERE to visit the "Employees Vote" website.  Once on the site, you can enter your zip code under "Register to Vote" and you'll find information on your candidates, general election information, and an election landscape map. 
Veterinary Feed Directive Information Cards Available for Your Customers 
 
If you would like to order postcards to inform your feed customers of the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) rules, the Farm Foundation is offering free postcards to set on your counter or share with customers. The Farm Foundation is a non-advocacy public charity that provides objective analysis of issues facing agriculture.  Click HERE to view the postcard.   If you would like to have ACI send you printed copies of the card, please email an order request (number) to Jayne McElwain (jmcelwain@inagribiz.org).

Purdue/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer Down in October
Producers' sentiment regarding the agricultural economy has fallen as they begin to look toward 2017.  Click HERE to read the October report to find out more about what's driving the change.  This month's report also includes information from the quarterly Ag Thought Leaders Survey.  You can also access a recording of a recent webinar on the survey on the Purdue Center for Food and Agricultural Business's YouTube channel by clicking HERE .

ACI Board Member Dr. Joe Anderson Stepping Down Next Year as 
Purdue Agronomy Head
Dr. Joe Anderson has announced that he will step out of the role of head of the Department of Agronomy to return to his scholarly activities, effective Fall 2017.  Purdue College of Ag Dean Jay Akridge has already thanked Joe for his sixe years of service and said, "Agronomy is an outstanding department, and consistently demonstrates excellence across all of our missions and globally through robust international activities."  Dr. Ken Foster, head of the Agricultural Economics Dept., will chair the search advisory committee for the next Agronomy Department head.  Dr. Anderson sits along with Dr. Foster as ex-officio members of the ACI Board of Directors.

GAO Releases Report on Federal Efforts to Address Harmful Algal Blooms
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released a report entitled "Information on Federal Agencies' Expenditures and Coordination Related to Harmful Algae."  From 2013-2015 twelve federal agencies spent approximately $101 million to fund various research, monitoring, and other activities related to harmful algae blooms.  The five agencies with the largest expenditures for this period-totaling roughly $86 million were:
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), $39.4
  • National Science Foundation (NSF), $15.4 million
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), $14.5 million
  • U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), $9 million
  • National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), $8 million
