ACI Executive Leadership Meets with LG Crouch and ISDA Director McKinney
The Normandy Barn at the Indiana State Fairgrounds provided a perfect backdrop for this week's ACI leadership meeting with Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch and ISDA Director Ted McKinney.  ACI Chair Dave Reichhart and executive committee members Mike Hucker, Ed Korniak and Rod Miller,  ACI President Amy Cornell and ACI Lobbyist Lesa Dietrick discussed a wide variety of topics during the meeting.

Dave spoke about the need for realistic solutions to confined feeding operations, with Amy citing the Land Resource Council Toolkit as a very useful item to offer rural communities and businesses.  Rod discussed Dicamba's impact on crop production and urged against overregulation.  Ed moved the discussion to the need for rural broadband and better highway and road maintenance, with Dave raising concerns about current limitations on CDLs.  Mike spoke about the importance of logistics and Indiana ports to agribusinesses.  The Lt. Governor and Commissioner took notes for follow-up on key matters and offered a variety of thoughtful suggestions during the meeting, and ACI attendees were grateful to have this one-on-one time with these important ag industry leaders.

Indiana Legislative Rural Caucus Meets at Indiana State Fair
This week the Legislative Rural Caucus continued the tradition of meeting at the Indiana State Fair to listen to agriculture and rural stakeholders about a number of issues.  Amy Cornell, ACI President, and Mark Shublak, ACI Government Affairs, attended the meeting and were able to interact with other organization leaders and legislators.  Meeting topics included:  capital for rural business, rural workforce development and presentations by 4-H members, a presentation on the economic impact of animal agriculture among others.  Anne Hazlett, Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development at USDA, spoke to the group about the department's efforts.  Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch gave brief remarks and had agency leaders from departments she oversees give updates on a number of their initiatives.
