ACI Emerging Professionals Visit DC
The ACI Emerging Professionals visited DC last week and met with a number of industry and government leaders.  They began their meetings at the U.S. Department of Agriculture with briefings from representatives from the Farm Credit Council, National Grain & Feed Association, CropLife America and The Fertilizer Institute.  Anne Hazlett, Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development at USDA met with the group as well.  Then they made their way to Capitol Hill where they met with Senator Todd Young's staff and toured the U.S. Capitol.  The group ended their trip with a tour of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building which is occupied by the Executive Office of the President including the Office of the Vice President.

I really appreciated the opportunity to hear from the various speakers to help "personalize" the governance process for me.  I have certainly found myself less engaged in politics with the divisiveness I see in the media.  I feel more empowered through the visit to reach out to those that represent me in the government.  I came away with a better knowledge of the political process and a further appreciation for the work of our elected officials.  In addition, it was a terrific opportunity to get to know my EPLP colleagues and to get a glimpse of the monuments and architecture of Washington D.C.   EPLP Participant

The time we got to spend together as a group was invaluable, and I particularly enjoyed the briefings we received at USDA. Would highly recommend this trip to future classes. Thanks ACI for helping make it possible for so many of us to participate in a fun, informative, and rewarding trip! EPLP Participant

ACI Board Members Testify at
Interim Study Committee
ACI Chair Dave Reichhart, Ag Plus, and board member Brad McCord, Co-Alliance LLP, testified last Tuesday at the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources.   Both Dave and Brad testified about the economic impacts CAFOs and agribusinesses have on our local communities, counties and states.  They also addressed the sustainable practices our members and farmers use today to address concerns raised by the committee and opponents of agriculture today.  This issue will continue to be a topic in the Indiana Legislature and ACI will be monitoring it throughout the next few months and into the legislative session.
Brad McCord (CoAlliance) and ACI President Dave Reichhart (AgPlus) testify on behalf of ACI.
