As we reflect on and remember the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ this week, may we allow our hearts to stir afresh with greater affection and devotion to our King. Above the Rim: Building up Coaches and Athletes in Basketball and Faith

FCA WV was pleased to host the first ever (and hopefully annual) FCA National Hoops Invitational. This happened through a partnership with a local prep-basketball team. There were 7 teams in all and the tourney ran from Sunday through Tuesday. Teams came from Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and West Virginia. Over 20 college coaches were present to look for and recruit new talent. Our staff worked to build relationships with them as well. FCA took the opportunity to pray with the teams and the crowd before each game. Each member of the all-tournament team and the winning team received an FCA Bible.

The tournament was well received by all those that participated and we anticipate it will grow in the coming years. The goal is to have it be a premier tournament that teams want to participate in and to use that platform to share the gospel with all those that are present.

Making the Choice to Never Give Up!

Last week, 17 school assemblies were held in Southern and Central WV. In this picture, two-time Olympian and former professional wrestler Chip Minton, speaks at Beckley Stratton Middle school. Sports World speaker Steve Grant and Minton teamed up with FCA to bring a message about making good choices in life and never giving up. Mike White, FCA Area Director for Southern and Central WV, has worked with Sports World since 1991 and enjoys partnering with and hearing from Sports World speakers.

A Coach Finds Salvation in Christ!

A Logan, West Virginia pastor who serves as the Huddle leader at Logan High School, recently shared a testimony about a former basketball coach finding salvation in Christ. A few years ago, our FCA WV State Director, Keith Tyler was invited by the pastor to share about FCA at one of the church services where this coach was in attendance. Keith recalls that at the time, the coach was completely opposed to Christianity. Well, just last month the coach accepted Christ as his Savior! Only a few short weeks later, the coach shared his testimony at one of the FCA huddle meetings at Logan High School. Praise God for His grace and faithfulness to use our FCA staff to play a role in bringing others to a saving knowledge of and relationship with Christ!
