Despite the Weather, "Lighter-Than-Air" Show a Success
While the weather for last month's "Lighter-Than-Air" Show as less-than-perfect, the excitement for the event among our tenants, friends and the community was sky high.

Approximately 2,000 people attended the free event, featuring Radio Controlled (RC) aircraft demonstrations and displays, helicopter rides and an ever-popular balloon glow courtesy of WindDancer Balloon Promotions.

Thank you to all of our event partners, vendors, volunteers and everyone who braved the elements to join us for the "Lighter-Than-Air" Show! Stay tuned for details on next year's event!

I don't know about you, but this year sure seems to be flying by. It's hard to believe that we're already gearing up for the 4th of July, EAA AirVenture is coming up fast and our runway reconstruction and other improvement projects are approaching the half-way point.

Despite the rainy weather we've experienced this season, we are very happy to report that our runway reconstruction project is on schedule. In fact, last week we reopened Runway 18/36 to its full length, after runway intersection construction, 24 hours ahead of schedule.

We greatly appreciate everyone's support and cooperation during our construction projects. Thank you so much for continuing to utilize your airport during construction! I was very pleased to see so many of you using the short runway! Hopefully it helped knock the dust off some of your early flying skills.

As you may know by now, the tower renovation is complete and the controllers are back in the office, including our new Tower Manager, Scott Vredevoogd! Please join me in welcoming him to the Waukesha County Airport team.

Thank you and fly safe,

Kurt

Operations Update by Matt Grenoble
With construction in full swing, it's been a busy couple of months!  We are conducting multiple safety inspections daily to ensure that Runway 18/36 and all open taxiways are free of Foreign Object Debris (FOD).

Our County highway crews were a big help in getting Runway 18/36 marked for Phase 2 of the runway reconstruction project. Pilots reported the temporary markings - showing the displaced 18 threshold and blast pad - were highly visible from the air.

With the runway intersection construction complete, the temporary markings have been removed and everything is back to normal on Runway 18/36.

4th of July Fireworks
The annual 4th of July fireworks display at the Waukesha County Expo Center will be held this year on Saturday, July 4 from 7-11 p.m. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The airport and Runway 18/36 will remain open at all times, however, at 9:30 p.m., Northview Road and Aviation Drive will be closed to everyone except airport tenants and customers. Please have your Airport ID badge available to show police officers who will be blocking the roads.

At 10 p.m., both Northview Road and Aviation Drive will be closed to everyone - including tenants - to improve the flow of outgoing traffic from the Expo grounds. The airport service road around the approach end of Runway 36 will be temporarily open to tenants from 12 p.m. - 11 p.m.

If you will be hosting an event, please keep plenty of trash containers on hand, so that the airfield remains free from Foreign Object Debris (FOD). All guests must be escorted by either an airport tenant or employee. As a reminder, you are responsible for your guests' actions while on the airport grounds. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kurt Stanich at 262-424-6747 or Matt Grenoble at 262-364-9145. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!
