For the past decade-plus, the headline story for Alaska's international business community has been the dramatic rise in exports from Alaska to the China. From just $103 million in 2000, to a record of nearly $1.5 billion in 2011, the growth has been unprecedented. We call it the Dragon Decade.
Nine years ago we conducted our 1st Alaska-China Business Conference. In the ensuing years, exports as well as other business and invesment has grown substantially and all indicators point to ongoing growth and expansion of these commercial ties. China is now Alaska's largest trading partner.
Alaska is well positioned to benefit from China's continuing growth and modernization. Alaska can supply not only much-needed natural resources, but also a range of technical and professional services. Alaska is also benefiting from the rise of air cargo traffic from China to the U.S. mainland through the Anchorage airport, and statistics show that an increasing number of Chinese tourists are visiting the Great Land. As an investor, China is moving into Alaska and will become even more involved in years to come as it seeks supplies of natural resources and to play a role in Arctic development. |
 The 9th Annual Conference will be held January 28th on the newly remodeled third floor of the Millennium Hotel, with a stunning view of Lake Hood.
