Ochsner Health System to Take Over as New Operator for Fitness Center at Federal City

The Algiers Development District (ADD) announced today that a committee of their board will work to finalize an agreement with Ochsner Health System which has been selected to take over as operator of the Fitness Center located at Federal City. The YMCA, which has operated the facility since 2012, will assist leaders of ADD and Ochsner in the transition.

"ADD's first priority is to the Algiers community and the people of Federal City," said ADD Chairman, Jeff Arnold. "Our main goal, after the YMCA notified us of their decision and their timeline, was to ensure no disruption in services to the 2,300 members that use the facility daily as a fitness center and, next, to identify an operator with a successful track record and business model. We think this agreement with Ochsner accomplishes both of those needs."

Multiple local and national entities expressed interest in operating the fitness facility at Federal City, which currently has 800 member units of single and family members (2,300 individuals). All parties that expressed interest and who opted to compete for the facility management role were required to submit a detailed proposal and were given equal consideration prior to determining a new operator.

Ochsner Health System is committed to working with all parties involved to ensure a smooth transition for all members and as many employees as possible.

"On behalf of Ochsner Health System, we are excited to enter into this partnership with ADD, and we very much appreciate the opportunity to become a valued member of the Algiers community. We view this as a long-term investment in the Federal City project and are committed to serving the fitness needs of the Greater New Orleans area for many years to come," said David M. Gaines, Ochsner CEO, System Retail Services & SVP, Public Affairs.
