A Knitting and Literary Journey

Sunday, July 30th-
Monday, July 31st
10am - 4pm
Immerse yourself in the best of knitting and American literature. Join us for two full days of extraordinary knitting instruction interspersed with literary readings and a writing workshop taught by the awesome team of award winning American author,
Alice Hoffman and Knitting designer and teacher,
Lisa Hoffman. Collaborators of the Faerie Knits column in
Faerie Magazine, Lisa will teach a range of lace techniques while Alice will inspire us with her literary gifts, readings and offer a short workshop on short story and fairy tale writing.
Day 1: We will begin at 10 AM
- Introduction by our workshop teachers and outline of program. Coffee and fresh baked snacks will be served.
- Swatching for the Blue Heron Shawl
- Lisa and Alice will discuss their collaboration for Faerie Magazine and plans for a new book featuring their joint creative talents. Alice will read one of her original fairy tales

Casting on to begin
our shawls using Lisa's special Feather Tier lace pattern with instructions on techniques to create horizontal feather tiers.
- Discussion of how Lisa and Alice choose to work with a story and why fiber, color and texture play such an important role in the design process
Lunch: Sumptuous, home cooked, vegetarian, dairy fare. Continue knitting, and/or sit outside on our charming porch and enjoy the splendid view.
- Workshop: Short story/fairy tale writing with Alice with an emphasis on including knitting in our stories.
- Workshop: Feather Tip Bind Off Technique including a review of slipping and picking up stitches, while creating a most unique effect on our triangle of working sts. We will explore the method of "knitting backwards".
- Snacks and stretch breaks throughout the day!
Day 2: We will begin at
9:30 AM
- Knitting our shawls using and reviewing lace knitting techniques
- Review of feather knit bind off techniques and varied lace stitches. Lots of personal attention and time to knit!
- Live readings from one of Alice's novels (Alice will also be knitting with us and learning the special techniques that Lisa will be sharing)
Lunch: More delicious fresh vegetarian offerings
Afternoon Workshop: Make your own Amulet

- Alice will read "Amulet", from the Spring 2017 issue of "Faerie Magazine"
- Everyone will create their own amulet necklace utilizing found and provided materials. We will make our own special work of art to take home as a memory of the wonderful time we have shared together.
- Continued knitting of our shawls, attention to our own stories along with time for questions, answers and assistance from our instructors

The Salon North
Join us for another fabulous Knitting Retreat at the Salon North.
Our retreat will take place at The Ethelridge Knitting Salon North
in Stephentown, NY, two hours north of White Plains in the scenic Taconic Foothills, and just a few miles west of the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, the cultural hub of the New England summer arts and music scene. There will be plenty of time for knitting, hiking and relaxing among fellow fiberholics
. Retreat participants are welcome to stay after the workshop ends each day to take advantage of the glorious scenery and quiet atmosphere.
From Sunday, July 30- Monday, July 31, you will be immersed in blissful creativity,
along with bucolic scenery, great food and friendly company.
The Ethelridge Road Knitting Salon carries a stunning collection of unique and very special fibers as well as local, hand dyed yarns and needles, tools and handmade knitting bags.
And, of course, you'll love our Golden Road Honey from our own apiaries right here on our property.

required for the workshop . ** The fee also does not include overnight accommodations.
You are welcome to stay at the Salon North for leisurely knitting each afternoon following the workshop.
ACCOMODATIONS:
**Overnight accommodations will be the responsibility of workshop attendees. There are many, many lovely small hotels and B and B's throughout the area including the Berkshires and Columbia County. We are approximately 30 minutes from Pittsfield and Lenox, Massachusetts and Chatham, New York . In addition, we have recommend

Space for the Retreat is limited. Places will be available on a first-come, first served basis and will be confirmed once full payment has been received. Registration will close two weeks prior to the first day of the Retreat.

Full payment is required by July 15, 2017
If the workshop fills before the close of registration, a waiting list will be maintained.
**Should a registrant be unable to attend a workshop, a full refund, less a
$
25.00 cancellation fee, will be available, if the cancellation is received at least two weeks prior to date of the workshop. No refunds will be available for cancellations made after that date unless we can fill your spot with another participant.
Should the organizers be forced to cancel the event for any reason, registrants will be notified and will receive a full refund.
