ACADEMY AWARDS: AND THE WINNERS ARE...
On June 3rd,  Riverfront Museum Park  was packed with Rockford Public School teachers, students, administrators, and community members as they celebrated the 2nd Annual Academy Awards. The Academy Awards recognize exemplary service within the College and Career Academies of Rockford, and outstanding work by teachers and community members within and working to support the Academies. The highlight of the evening was a speech given by Jefferson High School graduate Michael Mendoza which brought to life the result of many hours of volunteer efforts within the Academies. Academy Awards winners are: 
 
  • Council Member of the Year:Chad Moe, Rockford Fire Department 
  • Academy Support Team Member of the Year: Sam Basile, Trekk 
  • Project of the Year: Jefferson Freshman Academy, Quality of Life Project  
  • Academy Staff of the Year: William Rose, Business, Arts, Modern World Languages and Information Technology Academy (BAMIT) team leader, Business and Social Studies teacher at East High School   
  • Community Organization of the Year: Rockford First

 INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
KENNEDY MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TUTOR INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE  
 
T he Alignment Rockford Academy Expo team invites you to participate in the 2015 Academy Expo  to be held at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 8:00am to 3:00pm. 
 
Businesses and organizations are encouraged to host a booth at no charge, to meet with students and discuss your career with them.  The purpose of the Academy Expo is to engage 9th graders in a variety of career experiences. Click here for more information.

Alignment Rockford's College Readiness Team is seeking math tutors for 6th grade students at Kennedy Middle School. Tutors will w ork with students for one hour, one time per week during their regularly scheduled math class during the 2015-2016 school year.
 
Tutors will work with identified individual students that are currently performing just below proficiency to reinforce math lessons, develop math skills, and increase confidence. Click here for more information.

For our first issue we introduce you to Amy Heilman who has been with Alignment Rockford since it's inception. Amy is the Program Director of the Refugee and Immigrant Services and Elevate for Rock Valley College, and she is on Alignment Rockford's Academy Expo Team.

 I can see a great need for career education in our area. The Academy Expo team allows me to prepare and plan an event that helps incoming freshman to start this process. Create an engaged school and community culture where all students expect to pursue higher education or professional training beyond high school graduation

  • Create a team and fundraise to walk in the event
  • Work with student leaders during enrichment time or over the summer to plan a successful event
