Lecture: Growing Fruits in the Lowcountry-Darren Sheriff (President of the Lowcountry Fruit Growers)
(The discussion will include, growing Blueberries, Brambles, Figs, and  Peaches, as well as other fruits)

11:15-11:30 
Demos: Root Pruning-Kathy Woolsey (Vice President of the Lowcountry Fruit Growers)

11:30-1 pm 
Lunch and shopping.

1:00pm-2:00pm
Lecture: Strawberries-Kathy Woolsey
(Everybody's favorite early season fruit! She will discuss planting, diseases, and much more)

2:10pm-2:30pm
Demos: Air-Layering fruit trees- Darren Sheriff

2:45pm-3:30pm
Lecture: Insect pests of fruit and a "Are you sure that is a fruit?" Steve Parsley (Formally of Abide-A-While)
(Steve will discuss pest problems and a fruit that you don't think of as fruit)

Jam and Jelly Awards Announcement (see below on how to enter)

Jam & Jelly Contest Rules


Bring entries to Hidden Ponds Nursery between 9am to 10 am. Entries must be in by 10 am on June 25th

We will have entry cards.
 
All types of Homemade Jams, Jellies and Marmalade will be accepted and subdivided into 4 classes. 

This is a people's choice award, each Fruitmania student will be given 4 tickets to vote in each class.
 
There will be crackers available do you can sample each entry.

Class 1. Best Tree Fruits (apple, pear, peach and others) 

Class  2. Best Brambles and Berries (strawberry, blueberry, grape and others) 

Class 3. Best Vegetables (Pepper, tomato and others) 

Class 4. Best Odd Balls and Mixed Fruit (cactus, daylily, guava and others) 

The Best of the Best Trophy 
selected from the top winner in each of the 4 classes. Members of the Hidden Ponds Nursery Staff will pick the Best of the Best award and will be announced at the end of the day.
