March Musings From Country Supplies
Storm "Doris", Storm "Ewan" & Storm"WhoEverNext"

There was widespread damage and disruption across the region as Storm Doris blew through with 70 mph winds.Trees were ripped up, fences blown over and power cuts were widespread. With more storms expected over the next few months it may be worth considering replacing damaged fencing before the problem gets even worse.

Our range of closeboard fencing is treated and tested to the highest standards and responsibly sourced from a range of sawmills. Closeboard fencing is considered to be a stronger system than regular prolap fencing and we carry a full range to suit whatever height finish you require. You can use our fencing calculator to work out exactly what you require for your project and buy online.

We are proud to be a stockist of The Ultimate Lap Panel from Grange Sawmills. The Ultimate Lap panel boasts a stronger construction than a normal lap panel. Unseen on the current Lap Panel Market, the Ultimate Panel is an enhanced wooden fence panel, with straight cut timber slats. It is engineered using fine sawn timber and comes with a 40mm rebated frame. The mortise and tenon jointed frame and capping connection on the top and bottom provides ultimate durability for this garden fence panel.

Jobs for March

March is a really busy month in the garden. It's a time to prepare for the warmer summer months everyone is so looking forward to.

Here at Country Supplies we have built our business around Topsoil and Compost and March is a great time to use both in the garden.

In both your veg patch and flower garden if the soil is workable, now is a great time to dig in a 5cm (or more) layer of all purpose compost, mushroom compost or green waste into your beds to prepare for the growing season ahead.

It's not to late to create your own raised beds for both vegetables and spring/summer flowers. Our range of sleepers make great raised beds and as they are all treated, will last for years.

Lawn Care Tips for March

This is when the major work starts as temperatures are usually high enough to mean that significant grass (and weed) growth is occurring.

Before cutting the lawn it should be raked with a spring tine rake so that the grass 'sits up' for the mower. Adjust the mower blade height if possible so that just the tips of the grass are removed. You should only need to mow about twice in March.
Trim lawn edges and around garden ornaments / trees using a lawn strimmer.
Neaten up / repair any damaged lawn edges.

At the end of March Scarify the lawn using an electric lawn scarifier or a spring tine rake. This will remove dead grass, thatch and moss. You can also then apply a
spring summer fertiliser.

Depending on the weather the back end of March or the begining of April is a good time to apply a top dressing to your lawn to help it through the Summer.
