"Artropolis"  is coming! 

The 3rd annual AISD elementary art show opening gala is Nov 20, from 6 pm to 8 pm. 

 

Visit "Artropolis" at the Allen Arts Alliance's pop-up gallery at 934 Market Street (across from DSW) in Watters Creek and view artwork from children from all of Allen's elementary schools.

 

There will be live music and interactive art activities for the whole family.


Because of the Brave

This special programming event on Nov. 11 honors Veteran's Day 2014 as we recognize the 100th anniversary of World War I and the 75th Anniversary of World War II. 

The concert is dedicated to the men and women who served in those wars as well as every Veteran who has served or serves our country in all conflicts.

The ballet is busy preparing for the Tea With the Sugar Plum Fairy and Nutcracker Performances in December. Tickets are available now!

 

The theatre is busy preparing for the Best Christmas Pageant Ever, a hilarious Christmas classic with a twist. It is in December, but tickets are available now!

 

The chorus is busy preparing their family friendly Christmas event "Cocoa Cookies & Carols". This is a musical variety show featuring local performers, Jeannie Clark Fisher (singer/songwriter) and Fine Spirits (a men's doo wop/barbershop quartet).

  

Allen Book Festival 2014

The first Allen Book Festival is Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Allen Public Library.  Authors will be on the auditorium stage to discuss their books and answer questions.

Harold Lloyd Film Festival

This is a rare opportunity to experience the grandeur of the silent film era. The free Harold Lloyd Silent Film Festival will be hosted 7 p.m. every Tuesday night in November. This unique event features a live theatrical organ accompaniment, once considered an integral part of the cinematic experience. 

 

Feature times for the Harold Lloyd Film Festival are:

November 4 - The Freshman (1925)

November 11 - Safety Last (1923)

November 18 - The Kid Brother (1927)

November 25 - Speedy (1928)

 

Honor Our Veterans

The program begins with a short documentary "Honor Flight," followed by a delightful medley of patriotic tunes performed by the Allen Community Band.        

 


Ebola Information 

Dr. Peggy Redshaw will provide information about the current outbreak and background information on the Ebola virus, as well as separate fact from fiction.

    


Sixth Floor Museum Curator Stephen Fagin

Stephen Fagin will discuss his book Assassination and Commemoration: JFK, Dallas and The Sixth Floor Museum. As the first researcher to thoroughly explore the Museum's Institutional Archives, Stephen had exclusive access to handwritten notes, memoranda, county documents, board minutes, draft exhibition text and architectural renderings, as well as the entirety of The Sixth Floor Museum's comprehensive Oral History Collection and newspaper, audio-visual and artifact collections.

Join the Folk Music Society at the Blue House,102 S. Allen Drive, on October 18th (3rd Saturday of the month) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for some picking and singing!

Meets every Thursday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 2005 Estates Pkwy. Use east entrance behind the church.
