Allen ISD Art Show 

 

The Allen ISD Art Show is a juried competition featuring students from Allen High School. The PAC Visual Arts Gallery is open to the public from January 29 to February 13. 
 

 

Train History Days!

The exhibit includes displays of train history in Allen, and family photos from an Allen family who adopted two children from an actual Orphan Train. You can see the trains at the Depot,January 10 & 24, from 10 am - 2 pm  

Girl Scout Badge Workshop: Playing the Past 

Your Junior Girl Scout will learn about Allen's past, and have fun while she is earning the badge, starting at 9 am on Saturday January 31 at the Depot.

Regional Contest 

Regional Contest Preparations are underway.  Contest season is fun and challenging; it makes for an exciting time to join our chorus!  Come visit and schedule your audition! Rehearsals are at 7pm at Grace Church.

 

Spring Sweet! Harmony Workshop Series

Sweet! Harmony - Ladies, join in the fun of singing 4 part A Cappella for a 6 week series topped off with a public performance!  Fine tune your listening, singing and performance skills while learning great music including Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah arranged by Deke Sharon and other songs beloved by many Generations!  Singers will perform on Memorial Day, May 25th, before the Allen Philharmonic Symphony at the Joe Farmer Hillside Amphitheater at Bethany Lakes Park to kick off the Parks & Recreation Summer Sounds Series!

Bluegrass Festival

Ready for an unforgettable foot-stomping bluegrass experience? For the first time, the Library will feature two outstanding bands for its annual Bluegrass Festival starting at at 7:30 pm, January 23. On stage you'll find both Bluestem and Quibble Brothers. Tickets are free.

Sherlock Holmes

In The Crime, Inspector Lestrade and 4 other inspectors are called in to investigate the "murder" of Allen's beloved Mayor Steve Terrell. Audience members will become inspectors, discovering fingerprints and blood splatters throughout the auditorium and gallery while seeking the clues. Sponsored by Bach to Books, this program is free. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 7:30 pm. 

Literary Jazz

The 2015 ALLen Reads programs is launching with a night of jazz  by the John Adams Group at 7:30 pm, Thursday, January 29. This year's selections,Orphan Train and Notes from a Midnight Driver, make extensive reference to the healing power of music and its ability to connect us to each other. Drama students from Lowery Freshman Center will read selections from the two novels in and around the jazz performances, highlighting the value of music in our lives.

The movies are free and begin at 7 pm.

The Allen Philharmonic and The Samantha Schmidt heARTS for ART organization are excited to announce a Performing and Visual art party Sunday, February 8, at the Allen High School Performing Arts Center. The event, originated in memory of Samantha Schmidt, will raise funds for Acute Myeloid Leukemia research at Cook Children's Hospital so that, in Samantha's words, "... other kids don't get sick." Highlights are:

  • The District Honor Choir, led by Cynthia Nott, will perform musical selections from composers Aaron Copland, Randall Thompson, Paul Boman, Douglas Beam, and Eric I Thiman. 
  • Who Stole the Mona Lisa? a film based on the fact that the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre in Paris in 1911. It is a Fantasia-like animation on the theft of the painting, the Firebird, Picasso's arrest, Paris and its Air Show of 1911. 
  • The beautiful Commons of the PAC will host an array of art activities such as: craft projects, face painting, games, performances
  • The Silent Auction is a favorite, and will include a large variety of artwork, gift baskets, gift cards etc. 
  • Carter Blood Care will host a blood donation site giving donors the opportunity to save a life.

Their next show is NOTHING SERIOUS, February 6-22.

It is a collection of comedies for adults (language and adult situation) by Rich Orloff going from Antarctica and Disneyland to the Garden of Eden and inside the womb.

Join the Folk Music Society at the Blue House,102 S. Allen Drive, on October 18th (3rd Saturday of the month) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for some picking and singing!
