We are looking for a few good women! Last month we announced that the Alumnae Council created two alumna awards to honor Women of Mercy who exemplify the Spirit of Mercy.   The Distinguished Woman of Mercy Alumna Award is for women who have graduated more than 15 years ago.   The Young Woman of Mercy Alumna Award is for women who have graduated five to 15 years ago.  

Criteria, nomination forms and other information are available here.  The award winners will be presented at the All-School Reunion on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

This year's FIESTA theme is Mercy Gras! Make your plans now to be part of it !  It will be held February 25, 2017, at the LaVista Conference Center. There are so many ways to get involved.  You can:

  •  Attend the event. There is a special price for alumnae-- one alumna and a guest is only $75 per person. Call your friends.  Make plans.  Reserve a table for 10! 
  •  Purchase a corporate package (includes advertising, seating, etc.) 
  •   Donate auction items (vacation/travel packages, gift certificates, plane miles or a basket)
  •  Buy a $100 raffle ticket (or two!) for the $10,000 raffle drawing
  •   Advertise in the FIESTA catalog 
  • Donate underwriting dollars or underwrite a Sister of Mercy or faculty member reservation.
You know how important FIESTA is in giving us the ability to continue to offer an excellent Catholic education to all girls.  Please consider contributing to FIESTA 2017.  We would love to see you there and any and all gifts are greatly appreciated.

Although our Alumnae Night at the musical was a quick sell-out, there are other opportunities to see this play. Shows and times are listed below.  Tickets are going fast and are now being sold online at

Musical:   The Wizard of Oz
Dates and times: October 28, 29 and November 4 and 5 at 7:00 p.m. and October 30 at 2:00 p.m.
Costs: $12 adults; $8 students/children; $6 Mercy students.
A special Halloween performance is planned for the October 30 afternoon show. There will be an Oz costume contest for children under the age of 13. One prize will be given at intermission for the best costume depicting a character from the play. 

The Mercy High School community will honor all those who have gone before us at Mercy's Memorial Mass on Saturday, November 5, at 4:00 p.m. at the school's chapel. Presiding at the liturgy will be Fr. Steve Ryan, S.J.  Refreshments will follow in the Daniel E. Sheehan Memorial Library. 

The Memorial Wall has been updated for viewing and includes the names of those who have been memorialized at Mercy through September 30, 2016.

Please let family and friends know about Mercy High School's  annual Open House on Sunday, November 6 at the school, 1501 S. 48th St. The event for 6th , 7th  and 8th  grade girls and their parents is from  12:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. This year's program features information on what makes Mercy unique and guided tours of the facility.

Last week students spent part of their Friday providing services to several nonprofits.  Retreats were also held for the juniors and the seniors.  Annually, Mercy students provide more than 12,000 hours of service. 
Today is the last chance to order delicious food treats from our Mercy students at the annual Food Sale.  Proceeds from the sale benefit the Negotiated Tuition Program.    
Elizabeth Ferrante '08 lives and teaches on the other side of the world.  Kathy Roccaforte Denning '03 is a doctoral candidate in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.  And Lynn
