NESA Announces Intent to Join Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (MCPHS) University

NESA and MCPHS University, formerly known as Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, have agreed to explore combining our institutions. This potential union brings great opportunities for the NESA community as we would become part of a vibrant university, widely known for its programs in health sciences education.

"We are excited to potentially combine our unique program with one of the world's leaders in health care education," NESA President and CEO Susan L. Gorman told the Worcester Telegram. "NESA would continue to fulfill and extend its mission of integrating acupuncture and oriental medicine with western allopathic therapies, bringing acupuncture into the mainstream of modern medicine."

This exciting discussion has made headlines in a number of different outlets including; Boston Business Journal, Union Leader, Pharmacy Times, Worcester Telegram.

On  Sunday, June 7th at 10:00 am  here on our campus, NESA will be hosting an Alumni Open House to communicate more about MCPHS, and to get your thoughts and feedback. Please RSVP by Wednesday, June 3rd. We hope you consider attending.

White Coat Ceremony

Congratulations to NESA's newest Interns! 2015 marked the third annual White Coat Ceremony. Members of the Class of 2016 received their White Coats on March 21, 2015 at a beautiful celebration recognizing their transition from student to Intern. We are proud of all their accomplishments and look forward to seeing them in the NESA Teaching Clinic and satellite clinic!

The White Coat Ceremony is a common rite of passage in many medical schools today. At NESA this includes a formal 'coating' of each new Intern and a reading of Sun Su Miao's Golden Principle. This NESA community event marked the beginning of the passage from student to practitioner.

It inspired the new Interns by speaking to the seriousness and responsibility of their new role as practitioner that will begin, but not end, with the year they will spend Interning at the NESA Teaching Clinic and its satellite locations.

Spring Allergies and Chinese Medicine

BI YAN PIAN
Bi Yan Pian is one of the more popular over-the-counter Chinese patent medicines. It is highly effective for nasal or sinus congestion due to the common cold, allergies, rhinitis, and sinusitis. The major herbal decongestants in this formula are magnolia flower (xin yi hua), Angelica dahurica (bai zhi), and Xanthium (cang er zi). Buy some today in the NESA Store or Teaching Clinic.

LOVE YOUR LIVER
In TCM, the wind (feng) of early spring is a combination of the remainder of a harsh winter wind and the gentle breeze of spring. The organ system associated with spring is the liver, when there is an imbalance with the liver allergies can follow. Acupuncture is used to balance and remove blockages in the body's energy (qi).

During the spring, it is important to have a diet that strengthens and cleanses the liver. Green is the color of the liver and of spring, and green vegetables help cleanse the body and liver. Citrus fruits, pears, apples, celery, and carrots are also helpful.

LIVER 3
Lv 3  is on the top of the foot, in the depression between the first and second toes. This powerful point balances the Liver meridian, all energy that flows up the body, and relieves many types of allergic reactions, especially bloodshot eyes, as well as neuromuscular disorders. it is also an excellent point for stress.

Breathe deeply as you hold the point for 1 to 2 minutes. Use this point to prevent an allergy from coming on, especially before entering a space or situation you know you may trigger a reaction.
