Four outstanding FLEX alumni represented  the alumni community at this year's Civic Education Workshop held in Washington, DC, from March 13 to 19. Valeria Șvarț-Gröger '07 (Chisinau, Moldova/ Manchester, NH ), Ilhomjon Aliyev '05 (Kanibadam, Tajikistan/Monroe, OR), Roman Fishchuk '04 (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine/Lancaster, PA),  and Nemanja Ostojić '12 (Kotor, Montenegro/Urbandale, IA)  helped to guide FLEX participants through the workshop and spark their interest in joining the dynamic FLEX alumni community upon returning to their home countries.  These alumni also had the chance to vividly and personally illustrate the impact of the FLEX and FLEX alumni programs to U.S. Congressional Representatives and representatives of the Department of State.

Founded by the Harvard Social Innovation Collaborative, this program identifies five high school students with promising social innovation ideas and projects, and equips them with the mentorship and resources needed to take these initiatives to the next level. Russian Business Leaders is a free program for young Russians engaged in business leadership positions to gain exposure to work in the U.S. private sector. Selected finalists participate in a tailored four-week fellowship. The program concludes with a closing program which includes a leadership certificate program at Georgetown University. Applications close on May 2, 2016.

Nazokat Omuralieva '09 
(Kennewick, WA/Osh, Kyrgyzstan)
Nazokat Omuralieva harnessed the spirit of volunteerism she developed in the U.S. to bring aid to her community when ethnic clashes broke out there in 2010. Inspired by an internship at the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Finance, Nazokat organized a campaign to advocate for increased transparency in the state budget. Now employed as an accounting analyst at GE Global Operations Finance Europe in Budapest, Hungary, Nazokat continues her devotion to spreading volunteerism. Read more.

Contribute Your Projects to the GYSD Impact Report

FLEX alumni around the world celebrated Global Youth Service Day weekend April 15-17, 2016.  If you were among the alumni who took part in this annual, global initiative to promote youth engagement in community service, be sure to submit your official Project Impact Report here, and of course share your story with your Alumni Coordinator!

On March 25 to 26, 2016, the FLEX Alumni program in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia, launched the first of two six- month-long mentoring programs aimed at connecting senior and junior FLEX alumni in Russia for career consultations and exploration.  The main goal of this program is to promote professional development opportunities for FLEX alumni, and to help alumni develop professional contacts and explore the vibrant FLEX alumni community in Russia.  Read more.
