The Admiral Coontz Recreation Center will be closed Friday, Jan. 27 for event setup. Other changes in the Rec Center calendar will be posted.

  • Leisure league plays Thursdays, March 2 through April 6
  • Competitive league plays Wednesdays, March 1 through April 5
  • A tournament will follow the competitive league on April 12-13
 Registration deadline is Feb. 20. Registration is available at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation office at City Hall, 320 Broadway. The cost is $35 per team. Registration and more information here.
Over the Pond it sails! Thanks to everyone who participated in Saturday's Ice Bowl tournament at the Don Crane Disc Golf Course at Huckleberry Park. Have you always wanted to be a lifeguard? Information about those jobs and others will be available at a Job Fair 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at City Council chambers of City Hall, 320 Broadway. Applications will be available and staff will be on hand to answer questions about seasonal employment with: Parks & Recreation Department, Department of Public Works, Street Department, and Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau. If your New Year's resolution is Getting Into Shape, try our new Fitness Station at the west end of Bear Creek Trail.
The station features 24 exercises and combines functional fitness and body-weight training on three skill levels.

A variety of 3D archery targets, such as deer, turkey, bears, badgers, rabbits, dinosaurs, wolves and coyotes, are available. Participants must bring their own bows and arrows.Here's more info!
Huckleberry Park
As construction at the Huckleberry Park shelter goes on, the playground is still open. 
The Born Learning Trail is an interactive series of 10 outdoor games around Huckleberry Park playground.  There are several new pieces of all-inclusive playground equipment, including two handicap-accessible swings and musical instruments at Huckleberry Park playground. 

Sodalis Nature Preserve 
The 2-mile paved walking path at Hannibal’s newest park is part of a 185-acre park property that was given to the city to preserve endangered bats. Here's a YouTube video explaining its origin.  Access to the Nature Preserve will be available off Ely Street, south of the Dempsey Dog Park and Bear Creek, 800 Ely St. Only non-motorized recreational activity is allowed, such as hiking, running and biking.Click on trail map here:

It's in 2 Days! Rooster Run 5K
8 a.m. Saturday Jan. 28 starting at the Jaycees building, 320 S. Third St.
Sponsored by the Hannibal Jaycees with Mark Twain Distributing Co. 
Race starts on Lyon St., in front of the Jaycee building located at 320 S. 3rd St; Hannibal, MO.  From there it will turn onto S. Main and proceed to the Bear Creek Trail.  It will then go through Sodalis Nature Preserve and back to the start. 

Wing Ding
Jan. 28 at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center
Doors open to the public at 11 a.m. Wings will be served at 1 p.m.. Winner will be announced at 6 p.m. Proceeds will help benefit Down Country, a non-profit organization promotes disability awareness.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

In an effort to expand on the theme “The “Gifts of Black Women” the program will feature various black women who have influenced their community and inspired others to achieve their goals.

Chocolate Extravaganza
March 11 in downtown Hannibal
Chocolate passports will include several different treats from most downtown businesses, of which you get to choose five you would like to redeem. There will also be special coupons and discounts for chocolate passport holders.   

The Museum and the Chocolate Factory
1-3 p.m. March 11 at Mark Twain Boyhood Museum
Family fun event with chocolaty games and prizes all based around the famous characters from the original 1971 movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” featuring Gene Wilder. Children, and adults, of all ages can try their luck at Charlie Bucket’s newspaper toss, Violet Beauregarde’s grape stomp, compete in Augustus Gloop’s pie-eating contest, Veruca Salt’s egg putting challenge, Willy Wonka’s pin-the-hat game and even snap a photo in Mike Teavee’s Wonka Vision Studio Booth.
