HISTORY'S AMERICAN PICKERS PICKED THE PRISON 

Jefferson City to be featured on popular HISTORY television series

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, October 9th, 2013 --- American Pickers is a popular television series which follows two of the most skilled "pickers" in the business, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, as they travel across the United States. In late July of 2013 Mike & Frank charted a course through the Midwest and landed smack dab in the middle of Missouri. The duo dug through a variety of spots in and around Jefferson City and even spent some time behind bars at the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP). No word yet on what, if anything, was picked from any of the locations in Jefferson City. To find out, viewers will have to tune in to HISTORY on Wednesday, October 30th when the episode featuring Jefferson City and the Missouri State Penitentiary is slated to air.

"We cannot wait to see what Mike & Frank uncovered during their visit to Jefferson City," said Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau Communications Manager Ryan Burns. "American Pickers is a highly entertaining show with a spotlight on American history. There is no doubt that we have a tremendous amount of fascinating history right here in our very own community."

The American Pickers crew was one of the last film crews to gather footage inside the historic Missouri State Penitentiary, now closed for the remainder of 2013. The property and everything inside is owned by the State of Missouri.

"It will be interesting to see what, if anything, they were able to pick from inside the Missouri State Penitentiary," said Chris Wilson, Jefferson City Convention & Visitors Bureau Film & Sports Sales Manager. "Picking a prison is not something that has been done on the show before, but we know Mike & Frank were quite taken by the history at MSP, just like so many others who tour the historic property."

With an air date right before Halloween one has to wonder if the episode will focus at all on the rumors of ghosts or paranormal sightings at MSP. There is only one way to find out --- tune in to HISTORY on October 30th at 8:00pm CT.
