"American Wrestler: The Wizard" is based on the life story of Iranian/ American actor, producer, renowned race car driver Ali Afshar. In this inspiring tale after post-revolution a 17-year-old Ali Jahani is newcomer to a small California town in pursuit of the american dream where he stands out as different in an unwelcoming community. Living with his embittered uncle, the boy faces a mountain of adversity everywhere he turns. Rejected by everyone but determined to fit in, he joins the school’s floundering wrestling team. With a chance to change how others see him, Ali must step up and learn to be a hero.
This heartwarming and exciting film is encouraging and shows how the American dream comes through. Oscar-winning actor John Voight, William Fichtner, George Kosturos and Ali Afshar star in the film.
A notable factor in the film is that the theme song “Rise” is performed by Iranian singer Andy featuring Shani. The song was written by Shani Rigsbee and Jamie Christopherson.
