The first museum of its kind in United States, dedicated to American writers both past and present, opening Spring of 2017 on Chicago's famed Michigan Avenue!
"It is long overdue for Americans to honor their own. There is such a great tradition of
writing in this country, that it is unimaginable it took so long to create the American
Writers Museum. That it is located in the heartland of this great country is
proper and fitting. Long may it thrive."

AWM Construction Update

Construction is underway at the American Writers Museum, located at 180 N. Michigan Avenue, and the crew is hard at work turning this blank space into a memorable national museum.

With flooring poured, drywall mounted, rough plumbing installed and electrical work completed, the first phase is near completion.  After the holidays we will begin painting, carpeting and installing exhibits.
Exhibit Spotlight: Anatomy of a Masterwork

Anatomy of a Masterwork is a permanent exhibit located in Mind of a Writer Gallery, a signature space in the museum that explores the author's creative process. Anatomy of a Masterwork allows visitors to dissect the elements that make a masterpiece extraordinary-use of language, word choice, dialog, work habits all meld into literature that we revere.  This playful, interactive touch-screens throughout the exhibit present as a giant whiteboard, as if visitors are collaborators in the creation of a masterpiece.

Andalusia Farm

Andalusia Farm in Milledgeville, Georgia was American author Flannery O'Connor's home from 1951 until her death in 1961. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, a location O'Connor frequently referred to in her published letters.
The farm was a dairy farm in the 1950's, owned by O'Connor's mother. It is where O'Connor completed her two novels and two collections of short stories. The farm has been preserved and continues to be run by the Flannery O'Connor -- Andalusia Foundation. It was started in 2001 by O'Connor's first cousins, Margaret Florencourt Mann and Louise Florencourt.
Visitors to the farm are welcomed to 21 acres of rolling hills, hayfields, a farm complex, and Tobler Creek once used for rum-running in the 1700's.  The farm complex is home to many structures, including the main house where O'Connor wrote and lived with her mother. The farm attracts more than just fans of O'Connor's work. Historians and archaeologists also study the relationships of the Europeans and Native Americans who met there and developed trade agreements in the 18th century.
