March 18, 2016

Thank you for your support of Skylark Opera over the years. Because you are a valued member of the Skylark community, we wanted to share our news with you before it becomes public. It saddens us to report that the board met last week and made the extremely difficult decision to postpone the 2016 season. This decision was made with the utmost care and consideration for our artistic colleagues, partners and audience members.

Over the last few months, the Skylark Board of Directors and our Managing Director have been diligently working behind the scenes on the finances of the organization. We have determined thoughtful and immediate action needs to take place in order to ensure the organization can continue. Skylark is at a crossroads: while we are in a challenging and serious financial situation, we hope that you will stand by our side during this time of discovery so we emerge reinvigorated.

As we have shared our difficult decision with the artistic team and sought advice from leaders in the arts community, we have been humbled by their response. They have passionately reminded us that our mission, our 36 year history and the consistent high quality of our work truly matters to them. They have emboldened us to renew our pride and confidence in Skylark Opera and to look towards the future with optimism and energy. We hope you echo these sentiments.

Over the next six months, the Management Team will engage both artistic and administrative experts in the community while we challenge ourselves to become even more artistically exciting and vibrant as well as fiscally strong. As always, our primary goal is to provide both audience members and creative talent with theatrical experiences of the highest artistic quality, in a wide-ranging repertoire found nowhere else in the Twin Cities. We need you to play a part in our future. Please watch your email and mailbox in the coming weeks for future communications from us. You may also visit our Facebook page for more information.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this challenging, yet exciting time.

With warm regards,

Carrie Wasley, President
