Nov 21, 2017      Finger Lakes Connected
I have this little thing in me about family movie night. I can only do it if we pick an old school movie. I have a hard enough time sitting still for two hours for ANYTHING so if I'm gonna watch a movie it really has to be a good one I like from the past. I don't know, call me crazy but I'm just not into vampires and werewolves and drama in the movies they pick. Anyway, some of the old school movies work with the kids and some don't. This past weekend, we tried Coming To America and it was awesome! The kids got the humor and it moved quick enough (which seems to be the biggest problem with trying to make old school translate well in today's world). There was a certain bathing scene right off the bat that Sean was fumbling to try to find the remote for to fast forward but other than that we had family movie night success. Other ones that worked were Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Happy Gilmore, Breakfast Club, Planes Trains & Automobiles, and Tommy Boy. Suggestions welcome!!! Of course the kids are 12, 14 and 16 now so it is hard to find time to all be together and chill but ahhhhh when it does happen! Little things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday! Catch you on the other side! PS FREE THANKSGIVING MORNING FITNESS CLASSES AT COBBLESTONE! I teach the 9:30am Zumba and there is an 8am Yoga before me and a 10:30 FitCamp after! Sweat before you feast!

Diabetes and Blood Sugar Monitoring
The more you test yourself, the more you will learn about how your body responds to food, exercise, and medication. Each person with diabetes is different so talk with your health care provider about when and how often you should test your blood sugar.
Testing is easy. Most systems involve pricking your finger with a spring operated lancet to get a drop of blood. The blood sample is then analyzed by a special meter. Testing methods and equipment vary. Your health care provider can work with you to decide what is best for your individual needs. (Note Health insurance plans may help pay for this equipment). Keep a record of your blood sugar levels. Your health care provider or pharmacy has tracking logs.
To obtain blood sample follow these easy steps:
  1. Wash and dry your hands.
  2. Let your arm hang for 30 seconds to let the blood flow to your fingertips.
  3. Rest your hand on a flat surface
  4. Prick your finger with the lancet
  5. Gently massage the fingertip (above prick point) until a large drop of blood appears
  6. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to apply blood sample to test strip
  7. Safely throw away the lancet in a tightly closed container (can be purchased from pharmacy)
  8. Write down your results

These tips are brought to you by Canandaigua The Medicine Shoppe.
